In some movies inaccuracies don't even get my attention (Blues Brothers has several scenes like this)...Backdraft, on the other hand, is a perennial favorite but I cringe when watching it with non-firefighters who ask if that's what it's 'really like'.
Oh yeah-James Bond...the last time I patted a hot chick on her bikini butt and said "excuse us, honey, Man's talk." I was beaten to a pulp, not laid. |

Ok, decided to not read through 16 pages so forgive me if these have been done...
Well there was that one Angelina Jolie flick where she managed to shoot 16 people in a circle with one bullet that came all the way back to hit herself in the head... I hate when everyone runs out of bullets at the exact same time Or when cars run into other cars and flip over sideways... through the air... i hate it when people can't figure out the difference between "lose" and "loose" or "rogue" and "rouge" but those aren't really movie topics.... and I know it was a "super hero" movie and he had powers, but what exactly were those swords made of that Wade Wilson could cut a bullet in half so that it split and killed two people behind him? I mean we see him sharpening them in the plane so they aren't exactly adamantium.... :P and if everyone died how do we know that George Clooney decided to stay on that fishing boat instead of trying to swim for it? I'm sure there are others I'm missing... |

I am aware of many unrealistic things that I see in films, but I would only classify a few of them as "pet peeves". I can overlook or ignore many things in films for the sake of suspension of disbelief and entertainment. I guess its a question of 'How real' you want your films to be.
The things that bother me the most, that I have a hard time ignoring, are how hand to hand combat and martial arts are handled in films. Like when the hero is fighting four guys, and they stand back and wait their turn to attack one by one, etc.. things like that. Another thing that I cannot ignore is the sound of gunfire. Anyone who has ever fired a gun without using ear protection knows that it is so loud, it literally hurts your ears. These guys don't even flinch. As for scifi, I think the rules don't really apply. We can always surmise that there is some technology that allows this to magically happen, LOL. Same with the gunfire - it's extremely loud outside. Indoors? Forget about it. Likewise, I liked in Black Hawk Down where the one guy lost his hearing because of the proximity of his eardrum to the guy shooting next to him. Realistic. Believable.

The one movie that really stretched my ability to suspend disbelief, though, is the one where Tom Cruise, in order to show that he was no wierdo (or gay) ended marrying James Vander Beek's ex-girlfriend, and supposedly fathering a child named after an obsucre biblical reference. I mean the casting on that is just ridiculous - Cruise and Katie Holmes that's just crazy - but, then, the whole plot is crazy; only thing missing is a cameo of Oprah. I also read the first couple of pages. This is funny to read though, so many people with the same hang ups and nothing in movies or TV is done about it.
Piss offs "Bad ass" movies where the Female is the lead bad ass. Every now and then it is ok. No offence to women, I love my wife but even she hates that. Resident Evil can slide she has a problem. But who said making a female supersoldier was the way to go? Unless she was more of the spy, undercover type. Maybe Gun Issues...a lot Before a group of people go into battle, everybody cocks their guns over and over. For WHAT! "yeah lets go get 'em" cock, cock, cock, click click click. Especially shot guns. Yes it sounds cool but that is it. Usually in cheap movies when guys run around after having shot all the rounds and the hand gun is in the cocked position and they are still pointing the gun...doesn't the dumbass actor not know to fix this.??!!! I find myself counting rounds when guns are being fired. And I find myself giving the movie/show the benifit of the doubt maybe they have a 9 or 15 round clip. But after that you can't keep shooting! One of the worst for me. When Nobody gets shot like the A team but not in a real shoot em up flick, people should get hit. This realy bugs me, if I am in any type of fire fight-cop, military I don't care I am not walking around with just a hand gun when there are assult rifles and machine guns all around me. I am picking those up and getting after it. I hate when these tough guys throw big guns down and pull out their hand gun and go after the bad guy. That is not realistic or cool. The Bad guys pick up the big guns. I can get past some things for fun sake. But the gun stuff drives me insane. |
