I acknowledge my opinion is biased, but I think GIJOE is one of those properties that COULD lend itself to a very well-made and thought-provoking film that could appeal to the sensibilities of an intellectual while still entertaining the peanut gallery.
Imagine an Akira Kurosawa film about Storm Shadow and Snake-Eyes. |

Imagine an Akira Kurosawa film about Storm Shadow and Snake-Eyes. Now, while a really strong story could be put with this, its still an action movie at heart. If they tried to make gijoe anything deeper, well, it wouldnt be gijoe. |

I wont deny that gijoe could be more than a totally mindless film...but give me a break. Its an action movie. It was action toys, and action cartoon and action comic books.

If they tried to make gijoe anything deeper, well, it wouldnt be gijoe. it's when you change everything about a mythos, you leave that hollywood shit taint on it. snake eyes is not french and does not talk(he was disfigured and muted in a helicopter accident). stormshadow is not korean. scarlet and ripcord are not in love. the baroness and duke are not old lovers. duke and cobra commander are not army buddies. destro is not a (to be) disfigured scientific genious. (sic) even sigma 6 was more closely related to gijoe than what we're getting next year. |

i wouldn't care if it was an all out action film, as long as it stuck true to the characters' personalities and relationships. a balls to the wall action film dealing with the character created by larry hama and used by hasbro for the gijoe line for the last 25 years would be awesome. sure, a few minor details have changed over the past couple decades, but for the most part, the characters are still based off their original inception and inter-relationships are mostly the same.

Problem is...studios and producers as a whole are idiots and out of touch with reality, yet they think they know what people want. So, bam gijoe comes out and will make a ton of money, and the producer has a success...and even if everyone hated it, it makes money and he think he did right. or doesnt care because he is even wealthier now. Its a lose lose situation for the true hardcore fans. |

Some of you might try reading before you post. You might find we agree on more than we disagree about.

I've read the script, and factor in what could be a hostile political climate, I don't see this movie making money

And I have to say anyone who I've met or worked with that was on this movie...loved the experience and thinks the movie will be pretty enjoyable. These are not joe fans, just your run of the mill guys...like most movie watchers. Take that as you may. |

Take First Blood. Now that was a movie that common neandrithals, Kids, and intellectuals could dig. Hell when I was a kid I loved Rambo. It had a cartoon, and toy line too, remember this shit?!! First Blood was about a disturbed Vietnam vet, and his dificulty adjusting back into society. Here is what Wiki had to say about First Blood "First Blood has been a critical and commercial success, and has had a lasting influence on the genre." It then went on to say- "The film is also notable for its psychological portrayal of the aftereffects of the Vietnam War, particularly the challenges faced by American veterans attempting to re-integrate into society." Seeing as how GI.Joe deals with subjects such as global Terrorism I don't see why GI.Joe coulden't be at least as challenging of a film as First Blood. If you guys haven't seen it, check out "An Evening with Kevin Smith." Even if you're not a Smith fan, he tells some great Hollywood stories. One of the best is about his experiences when he was attached to the movie that eventually became "Superman Returns." He talks at length about Jon Peters, a Warner Bros. executive who couldn't wait to make a Superman movie--as long as Superman didn't wear the costume or fly. It paints an interesting picture of the "artists" churning out movies.
