And one ring to... Be blown up??? A Halo movie script review

So, I've been sitting on this for a while, as this was kinda hard to get, but here goes---

It's awesome! Have you played the first game? Read the book about it? Then you've seen this movie (more or less). The opening is right out of the game, chaos on board the Pillar, but there is (or at least there is written) a small part about the Chief before he got to the Pillar.

Funny of gags, lots of action, and a BUTTLOAD of references to the game, or at least, is probably the most faithful adaptation I've read.

Even the last line is from the game.

A couple of quick notes now, but I'll be back later (I have a date soon!).

Positives-
The banter between the Chief and Cortana is there.
Lots of action, and I mean EXPLOSIONS!!!
The jokes aren't over the top and will make you laugh, without interrupting the tone of the film!
That little bastard Guilty Spark is here, in all his annoying glory (only good if you know what happens to him in the end).
All your favorite Covenant, Marines and moments are here! The Flood on the big screen = HOLY SH!T!!!!

Negatives-
We may never see it, as this is in Dev. Hell... However, there's concept art floating around, and my sources are giving me the thumbs up...

Best lines ever (you'll know the parts if you've played the game)-

Chief: .... This will kill me too, won't it?
Guilty Spark: Oh, yes. Absolutely...

Cheif: Appreciate you being alive, Foehammer...
Foehammer: Likewise.

Be back soon with more!

Who would I have play the Chief?

No.
Frigging.
Clue.

It's all about the voice for the Chief, but they'd need to be able to act. Unfortunately, anyone who has a voice that'd work (cept for the voice actor for the game) wouldn't work as an actor. There were rumors (a long time ago) of Vin Diesel as the Chief, but I haven't heard zip about that forever, and neither have the individuals who are my "hook-up".

Personally, I'd consider going with someone to play the voice, and someone else to play the physical aspect.

I would theorize that a large professional wrestler, properly trained by military consultants, would be capable of the pantomime needed to bring the Chief to physical life, and then a voice actor, heck, even his actor from the game, can play the Chief's voice. Unfortunately, despite Halo's incredible fan following (not debating the game here...), I believe that it would need some good name talent to get that much more of a push because, admittedly, the average movie goer is a bit shallow... Not saying anyone on the tank is unintelligent, just that a lot of people will see a bad movie just because of a name. Hopefully, halo could be one of those movies to use it to it's advantages.

Other things I wish to point out about this script is Guilty Spark has a lot bigger of a part in the movie than the game. He's much more, shall we say, cliche, but somehow that much more threatening. You see him plotting (if you can call trying to fulfill his programming plotting) a bit more behind the scenes, which helps flesh him out a bit for when he FINALLY get's blown the f up in Halo 3 (seriously, I waited years for that moment).

Another difference is when the Chief goes to "retrieve" Captain Keyes, post-Flood. There's a small "confrontation" there that wasn't in the game, and while I appreciate the slightly-more climactic moment of that scene, I wish to say that the Chief isn't a HUGE smart-ass (okay, he cracks one every now and then), but not like this. It just seems... "Unspartan-Like".

The ending is basically the same, heck, some of the dialogue is word for word. Even the little "Oh... Hello..." at the end. There's a tad bit that works very well, if you're a fan of the interactions between the Chief and Cortana, that closes the movie out, and leaves it open for... Gasp, halo 2.

It's a good script, and I'm going to re-read it tonight and bring back more to the thread. However, if you have any specific questions, let me know. No spoilers will be written on the thread, and please, to all those who do not appear on the site as a regular, or lurkers, DO NOT IM ME FOR THE SCRIPT. If I don't know you, I will not respond.

Sorry if that seems a little rude.

Ya know, id actually be ok with Vin, voice wise and whatnot. I just watched Babylon AD the other night (sigh), and while I dislike most of his movies, I really like Vin, and Ive always liked his narratives from Pitch Black and the game "Escape from Butcher's Bay".

And Jackson is no longer in the running as producer, right? I can't remember.

Just saw Babylon on my date, wasn't as bad as people say. I'd be fine with him as the Chief. Last I heard, Jackson was one of the few people trying to keep the flick alive.

However, one thing I have to point out is that the script I have has been revised, and I'll be getting the revised version soon.

In case anybody hasn't seen this, to promote Halo 3 the guy who was directing the movie made an awesome series of live action shorts that had me believing it could be a great movie:

yeah, the landfall trailers were awesome. The guy who did those (cant remember his name off the top of my head, its german or something like that), has done some really cool commercials. I youtubed him a long time ago, and the dudes a pretty badass director.

As for Babylon AD. I think I woulda liked it more, but the last 15 minutes felt unfinished or something to me. The last action sequence sure didn't feel like a 'last action sequence', and the last few minutes, it just felt like there was more to it, like it just ended for the sake of ending. I like it for the most part up until the last act pretty much.
