Scream TV Show in the Works
Another week, another horror/suspense movie being adapted into a TV show. With upcoming series being based on The Exorcist, Hellraiser, Psycho, Dracula and the Silence of the Lambs franchise (two shows for that one), now there's word that MTV is developing a series based on the popular Scream films. TV Line has few details at this early stage -- a pilot hasn't even been written yet -- including the extent of involvement (or lack thereof) of original writer Kevin Williamson and director Wes Craven, but you have to wonder if, given the disappointing performance of Scream 4, plans for a fifth and sixth movie will be scrapped in favor of the small screen. Given the franchise's hip, youth-skewed slasher format, this seems like a natural fit for MTV, but then again, a format in which main characters routinely get killed and in which there's an ongoing search for the identity of a mystery killer would also seem to have a short shelf life. Indeed, the recent slasher series Harper's Island lasted only one season -- by design. One route MTV could take is that of the Friday the 13th TV show from the late '80s, which just borrowed the marketable brand name and slapped it on a storyline completely separate from the movie franchise of the same name. MTV has some experience in this area, as its current hit Teen Wolf is a virtually unrecognizable adaptation of the film upon which it is based. Whatever the strategy, it will be interesting to see how Scream the TV series plays out. Source: TV Line

So it's a TV show, based on a horror movie, that won't have either violence or sex/nudity, which in essence is the only reason to watch a horror movie.

AGHHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I can not stress how bad an idea this all sounds like. Ok one by one here... -The Exorcist Huge fan of the original film, I can begrudgingly tolerate the second, but love the 3rd film, and find both version of the prequel to be interesting and well made if not as good as one or three, but I just can not see any TV show capturing the SHOCK of how disturbing the first film is, much less a need to drag out a story over the course of a season or more. -Hellraiser Again original was awesome...granted the franchise just spins into worse and worse sequels...some of which I actually like alot. But the concept of Hellraiser being S&M torchure seems a little much for broadcast TV, but I think as a series a longer story MIGHT actually benefit Hellraiser as an interesting story defining the line between her and hell and pleasure and pain....but I just can't see people being ripped to pieces via hooks on chains as a weekly show that CAN be broadcast. -Psycho Hey guys....we tried this once already....go look up on youtube Bates Motel (the pilot TV film made it to air but it was so bad the series never materalized)....which basically had a new owner taking over the Motel and guests having Twilight Zone like stories on a weekly basis and then there was a VAGUELY linked Norman Bates story which was awful. -Dracula Oh great as if Vampires haven't been ruined enough by all these romance stories like Twilight and Vampire Diaries and True Blood enough lets kill the grand dad of all vampires by glittering him up and making him all touchy feely. -Silence of the Lambs franchise (two shows for that one) I get the Clarice Starling series...almost makes sense really, but Lecter having a series? Come on guys...Lecter really was only interesting in the first film the rest pretty much blew and why? Because Hannibal was much more cool when he was this caged lion ready to pounce...let him out of the cage and he's scary but somehow he was more scary wonder how he would get loose. -Scream Ugh...I am one of the few who felt Scream, Scream 2, Scream 3 (ok maybe not the Jay & Silent Bob cameo, and I will admit this one felt a little tired but I did enjoy the story) were all pretty great films...in fact I would have said and did say that if the story ended there I would have been perfectly fine. I will admit I was unsure of Scream 4...especially with such a gap between films, but (and while I know it didn't do very well) I was AMAZINGLY suprised by how damn good this film really is. Again I'm not sure there is room or need for a part 5 or 6, but I felt this film did a good job playing on the sad trends of remakes, and reboots, and even managed to continue to poke fun at itself, and the film in a film series Stab. But I can't see this playing as a show either. While I love the 4 films we have I can't deny that the basic premise wears thin...clever in jokes, Sidney Dewey and Gail run around alot, lots of good looking people are killed, and someone close to Sidnet is the killer revealed by some twisted connection to her life, family or someone who feels jilted by the Prescotts in some way. |

Another show full of "beautiful" peaple where anyone over 25 is evil/ corrupt/guilty/all of the above... MTV should be shut down for breaches of human taste.

I'll watch it faithfully if it takes place in The jersey shore house and everyone really dies. And Jessie Camp turns out to be the killer.

If MTV wants a good show they should use my idea. Take 20 of the worlds most hated/annoying celebrities and engineer a fake plane crash and have them all stranded on a deserted island. The mess with them Lost style, drop in a polar bear and stuff. And watch as they eventually go Lord of the Flies on each other.
