Well, I plan to see this tomorrow.
I like Dragonball Z. I have a small action figure collection and have been getting the season box set DVDs. I do think it peaked during the Frieza Saga, but that's just me. I'm not a crazed DBZ fan, just casual. I think the movie looks awful but I will give it a chance. I'm expecting dismal box office, though. EDIT: Just got back. It was mostly incoherent. There were one or two charming moments thrown in (I assume) to please DBZ fans, like Goku attempting to gel down his hair and Bulma finding (rather innocent) skin magazines in Roshi's house. Nothing's ever really explained and even for someone like me who is familiar with DBZ mythology, it still did not make much sense. Its production was very ABC Family. At first, I thought "this isn't nearly as unappealing as I thought it'd be" and then they go to FUCKING MORDOR to get one of the Dragonballs and anything approaching artistic consistency takes a nosedive after that. Chow Yun Fat will obviously do anything for money...I wonder if he'd come to my birthday party if the price was right. Justin Chatwin...bless his little heart...does look like a flesh-and-bones anime character so his casting was ideal. It's Goku, not King Lear, eh? Piccolo has maybe five scenes and ten lines and James Marsters is appropriately sober and menacing. I don't know what's up with his Bai Ling-lookalike sidekick, though. Apparently this was a character from the original Dragonball (not Z) with which I'm not familiar, Hollywooded. Anyway. The Bulma-as-Lara-Croft thing was not enjoyable, and the film's interpretation of Yamcha may replace Jar Jar Binks as the most irritating action sci-fi sidekick ever. I kept hoping Piccolo or Bai Ling would rip his vocal cords out, but no luck. At least when I see "Rise of COBRA" I'll be able to compare the two so the Joe film won't seem nearly as poor. It's official: FLOP.
I think imdb.com said 4.65 million and opened in like 8th place. I wasn't sure it'd even crack the top ten. |

This movie looks aweful.
Not a DBZ fan, but a few of my friends are, and a few of them walked out in disgust.

This will be the turd of the year for sure. I do feel for the DBZ fans but somethings should not be made into live action

Don't forget about Street Fighter. My buddy saw it and said he actually prefered the JCVD one from the 90s.
