I saw it on friday, and I loved it, I thought it was one of the best movies I've even seen truthfully. I loved the Joker, especially when he was in the interrogation room, goading Batman to break his one rule. Alfred's past threw me off a bit, and now I'm intrigued to hear more. I really loved the mob stuff too, I'm glad that this isn't just about stopping the Joker, it's about dismantling the crime syndicates of Gotham. It had a good build up of tension and really made me anxious for the characters, like Rachel and Dent, and even more the people on the boats.
I loved Nicholson's Joker, and I think he nails the character, but Ledger reinvented the character into something real and grotesque. I did think Batman's voice sounded too ridiculous in some areas, like when he had to pause to finish a sentence. Finally when he got his new suit ans asked if it could stand up to dogs, Lucius Fox said "it'll stand up to cats" So I think it was a subtle hint at the next foe for Batman. |

I have a feeling that we are being baited on the whole Robin thing. Did anyone else notice that in both movies we have not seen Gordons daughter. We saw her in this one, but never saw what she looks like, not even her face. I think they are setting up for Batgirl.
As for the rest of the movie. I think this is truly the best Batman movie yet. The performances all around were breathtaking. A good performance is one where you forget you are watching an actor and only see the character. And in this one, the only person I couldnt see the role more then the actor was morgan freeman, but thats not becuase his performance was bad. it was becuase it was Morgan Freeman Crime drama... Batman has always been about the mob, corruption, and I usually hesitate to call Batman a superhero. he has no superpowers. He is an ordinary man with a large bank account. To see the batman story as more of a crime drama then "superhero comic" seems natural. Batman is after all noted for his detective skills as much as his gadgets, and to see batman as the detective in this movie was a nice touch. Heath ledger... His performance was extraordinary. He WAS the joker I have always imagined. Sociopathic, dark, twisted, chaotic, just down right frightening. If any of you have ever seen Batman Beyond Return of the Joker...I thought that was the best joker performance ever, until yesterday. This Joker was awe inspiring. I went in to this movie having seen all the spoilers, trailers, leaking images, press scenes, basically everything I could get my hands one and I was still SHOCKED the whole way through the movie. Nolan has a gift for misdirection. I can usually go into a movie and KNOW what is going to happen. But I think I spent most of this movie with my mouth hanging open. This movie is going to be one of the highlights of my movie collection. |

THIS JUST IN!!!!! I just caught a glimpse of this article and this is what Christian Bale had to say about the future of the Batman Movies:
"'Dark Knight' star Christian Bale says he'll chain himself up and refuse to work on the 'Batman' franchise if producers try to bring back Robin, Showbiz Spy asserts. Those of us who sat through 'Batman & Robin' thank you, Mr. Bale." YEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! |

edit: let me make it clear...I DO NOT want them to do that, just something I could see as a possible setup. I do not think either robin or batgirl would fit into this mythology all that well. |

unrealistic is not the same as over-the-top, hence why they are two completely different terms. you seem to want to say they are the same. no, they aren't, that's why they are different descriptors. you can be unrealistic (Two-Face) and not be over the top. or you can be unrealistic and be over the top (see Two-Face in Batman Forever). I'm not lying to myself simply because you can't understand the difference or are confusing the two.
and the Joker leaving the hospital wasn't over the top. it was comedic, but again, comedic does not equal over-the-top. the two can be completely independent of one another, but you again want to say they are the same thing. that's just utterly ridiculous. Definition of Over The Top; “To an excessive degree; beyond reasonable or acceptable limits.” If that does not sum up the villains then I don’t know what to tell you. Regardless your observation that the movie never attempted to be a Super hero or comic book movie is just a fanboy justifying his inner nerd! It was a great movie but a Comic Book Movie all the way. |

I would have to say this was least like a comic movie out of all the so called comic movies ever made. Most every "comic movie" has a sense of not so great acting, predictable plot, bad humor and dialogue, goofy outfits and props that don't stay very true to the original way they were portrayed in the comics.
After watching the Dark Knight it had a much different feeling to it opposed to watching ummm lets say Ghost Rider...

Saw it yesterday in the second row so I might see it again as I didnt get a good view of everything.
What impressed me the most is if I didnt know that it was heath ledger as the joker I wouldnt have been able to guess it was him. So many movies feel like you are watching the person just act out the scenes and that is probably due to the script most of the time, but this was just great. On a side note: did it feel like we saw less of Batman in this movie and more story?
