Great movie!!! I liked the first one, but thought this one was done MUCH better.
If you liked the first one, you'll love this one, if you didn't like the first one, give this one a chance, IMO, it's just a much better movie (even though I still like the first one quite a bit, this one fleshes out the characters so much more and the 'bad' guys are better IMO)

One of the most beutiful designs Ive seen in a long time. Its the green tentacle creature you see in the city in trailers, trust me, that does NO justice to how cool this creature is.
Again, I had a blast with this movie, and the only thing that was kind of "awkward" is the young hellboy at the beginning of the film, he's pretty goofy lookin but its cute and funny, but I did hear some other audience laughing about it.

I saw this today. I was very impressed by it. The visuals and character designs are amazing. I can't wait for the DVD so I can frame-by-frame the Troll Market, as delightful as the first time you saw the cantina in "Star Wars" or Jabba's palace in "Return of the Jedi." This film deserves Oscar nominations for art direction, makeup and costumes, definitely. And special effects. Beautiful, beautiful film.
I'm not familiar at all with the comics so I could just enjoy this for what it was. I loved the premise of the film though I wish it could have been explored more and we could have seen more of Prince Nuada's people and world. Some of the acting and dialogue wasn't great but the good elements definitely made up for the weaker components. And the film is such eye candy you're just trying to take everything in. There is definitely foreshadowing for future films. I hope it does very well.
Highlights of the film:
1. Anytime the Prince and Princess are in it
2. Abe Sapien's crush on the Princess-this had a lot more heart and soul than Hellboy's relationship with Liz
3. The Troll Market
4. The drinking scene
5. The Angel of Death scene
6. Anytime you get a glimpse of the magical realm
7. Hellboy making snide comments to Krauss
8. The Tooth Fairies
9. Wink's ball-and-chain fist (awesome!)
Low points:
1. Ron Perlman and Selma Blair sadly have less chemistry than Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman, and major portions of the film focus on their relationship and they are the dullest parts of the movie
2. Jeffrey Tambor's bumbling gets old after the first dozen or so scenes he is in-I thought the Sammaels ate him at the end of the first movie!?
3. The predictable fate of the major antagonist-you know exactly what's going to happen after the Prince fights the King's bodyguards |

bodyguards |
Actually, the last "in-movie" scene is him lighting the cigar for Hellboy, and then staying in Kroenan's chamber.
After the credits, it cuts back to him and he talks through his walky-talky saying something like "Guys, where are you, this place is creepy"

Yeah, but then you hear the surviving Sammaels roaring in the background. Or that's what I thought they were. |
