actually Speed Racer made $20 million for the weekend, which while more than $200k isn't really any better considering they were probably anticipating about a $50 million opening weekend. personally, I thought movie looked terrible, and the only Warchowski movie I have ever liked was Bound, so I didn't think the movie itself had anything more to offer than in the trailer.
but I am sure WB's was shaking in their boots before the weekend considering Iron Man's huge opening and great word of mouth. they had to have known that at the worst it would drop only 50% of it's audience, like it did, and still make $50 million this weekend -- and it's audience was Speed Racer's audience. Speed Racer never had a chance after Iron man's huge opening, not to mention that it is a great movie and Speed just looks awful.
