I had never seen this movie. But in my thread about Storm Shadow and why he wears white, I believe it was Rockshield that mentioned this flick and showed some pics.
I watched the first ten minutes last night before sleeping, and DAMN!! I was blown away!! Basically, there is no dialogue the first ten minutes....just shows a ninja dressed head to to in WHITE running around the woods and he single-handedly kicks the collective asses of a group of ninjas all dressed in red. Sound familiar?? Keep in mind this was YEARS before Larry wrote the Joe comic....suddenly he doesn't seem like such a visionary anymore.... The next scene shows that the guy in white is ACTUALLY white, ethnically, and has just completed his training. Another ninja is jealous of the admiration that the clan leader has for the foriegn outsider that has come into the clan. AGAIN....sound familiar?? Now there's no way this can be coincidence....Larry basically lifted ALL these elements and transplanted them to the Joe figures he was hired to create backstory for. Man...now I gotta go check out the rest of the movie....I'm assuming this is part of the "Revenge of the Ninja" and "Ninja III The Domination" cycle....all really cheesy and ridiculous B-movie stuff....but so much fun! Thanks for the heads up Rock!!! |

Yeah man that's a bad ass movie.
I used to go to the video store when I was a kid and rent ninja movies soley based on the box art lol. If you like that, check out the "Revenge Of The Ninja" ...which of course was my favorite artwork, and I lucked out that it was a cool movie too |

2 thumbs up for Enter the Ninja, Sho Kosugi is the best ninja master. Revenge of the Ninja rules too. If he's in a movie, I'll watch it. He and his son, Kane, were also used for the motion capture in the Tenchu video game series. The new Resolute/30th Storm Shadow looks like it's based off him. I know I'll have a few Sho Kosugi customs using that figure.
The Octagon with Chuck Norris was out a year earlier (1980). Similar white guy story. He trained with a Japanese kid when they were younger and there was a rivalry between the two about who was better. One of my favorite ninja moives. Speaking of ninja movies, W.O. leroy and I have been trying to find the cooler ones. Ninja Assassin Ninja Wars Shogun's Ninja Enter the Ninja Revenge of the Ninja Ninja III the Domination Pray for Death The Octagon (Chuck Norris vs. a Ninja clan) Ninja (not the greatest but some cool Scott Adkins fight scenes) Azumi Azumi 2 The Princess Blade The American Ninja series (Michael Dudikoff) The Hunted (Christor Lambert, pretty cool ninja flick, great music by Kodo) The Shinobi series Ninja Scroll (Awesome Anime!) Beverly Hills Ninja (Comedy-classic Chris Farley) The Master tv series (Lee Van Cleef) Surf Ninjas (another ninja comedy) Raven tv series (Jeffrey Meeks) Blind Fury (Rutger Hauer) Alien vs. Ninja Shinobi No Mono You Only Live Twice (James Bond) The Super Ninja |

Wait wasn't Ninja III the one with the chick? I think I was slightly disapointed in that one as a kid...but again I was a kid when I 1st saw it.
Definitley not in the same realm as these movies, but the ninja scene in Last Samurai has me doing sommersaults over my furniture every time...that was a awesome sequence! *Note to self for dio: Budo Vs Slice and Dice in a very Last Samurai looking setting |

OK, I'm almost finished watching Enter the Ninja and now I'm CONVINCED Larry based a ton of the Snake Eyes stuff on this VERY movie.
The guy fights in an unnamed war in Southeast Asia and immediately afterwards joins a ninja clan? And the little hand symbols the ninjas make? I know neither the movie nor Larry invented those...probably....but Larry obviously borrowed the concept! And yeah, Ninja III was the one with the dancer chick that gets possessed by a ninja. I never saw the whole thing, but I saw the opening when I was a kid. It was on cable and I saw maybe ten minutes before my parents came in and turned it off! It was sooo badass! This ninja guy kills a bunch of dudes on a golf course before getting gunned down by police. I remember thinking it was the coolest thing ever and solidified my love of all things NINJA! |

I saw it once. It had a white orphan baby raised by a ninja family. It stood out: because, it was the first I saw the baby test( they put the baby in water to see if it sinks or swims). If the baby swims, it's strong enough to train as a ninja. He also had a wardrobe that had about 20 different colored ninja suits. I thought it was a pilot, but never saw it again.
