Zac Snyder is quickly earning a reputation in Hollywood for being the most so-so director in history. Mixing a career of pretty good movies mixed with slightly okay movies without actually making a bad movie.
Until now. I have never, in my life, seen a film so unspeakably awful. The plot, the dialouge, the direction...awful, awful awful. Zac Snyder has committed what amounts to a celluloid war crime, a rampaging monster of just plain suck. The characters are one dimensional (and not in the good, action movie kind of way) and they lack the basic dramatic requirements needed to get ANYBODY to care about them. While the action sequences might be visually interesting (Custom GI Joe Bunny Mech anyone?), they serve little purpose other than to have a group of teenage girls jumping around in Bob Fosse outfits. Scott Glenn needs a smack upside the head for taking a part with no purpose other than to drop cute catch phrases. Jon Hamm needs a better agent since he was just about the only actor that wasn't either unlikable or f***ing sleep walking. The film's biggest problem is that it's unsure of itself. Is it surrealism? Action? Serious drama? PICK A GOD DAMNED GENRE, SNYDER! It certainly doesn't help that they grabbed every damned Disney Channel actress not currently working on a Twilight movie to fill out a cast of cutely named "tough girls" who are about as edgy as a hot topic at your local mall. If you like good movies or if you even have a modicrum of self respect...don't see this film. My Verdict: * The Good: Presents a steampunk WW1 that might've actually made a cool movie on it's own, Always nice to see Carla Gugino The Bad: EVERYTHING ELSE! |

the previews look awful. I don't like it when it's obvious that a movie was shot in front of a green screen.

Yeah, *sigh* Me neither (sarcasm).
I feel like this Superman movie is a similar situation as Avatar the Last Airbender, where they hired the director (M. Night) before they realized he was becoming a talentless hack. Hopefully Nolan's consultancy will keep him from sucking too hard. |

I liked 300 and Watchmen just fine. In fact, I don't really care what anyone else thinks, I believe Watchmen (particularly the "complete" cut) is about as good an adaptation of that graphic novel as anyone could have hoped to have made.
Sucker Punch, on the other hand, was awful, and I agree with just about every word of the OPs review. Superman may end up OK though. It's got Christopher Nolan looking over Snyder's shoulder and Warner Brothers flexing studio muscle to minimize any screw-ups on his part. That, and as noted above, I seem to like Snyder just fine when he's adapting other peoples' material. It's just his "original" stuff that is apparently crap. |

I saw it last night. I went it with little expectations. Visually, it was great I thought. The action, while over the top, was entertaining as well. The story on the other hand, pretty weak.

I didn't go to this movie for its "story." I just wanted to see the cool stuff and babes kicking ass. It didn't disappoint. I went to be entertained, and was thoroughly entertained throughout.
If I want a good story AND a moral lesson, I'll go to church.

I'll just copy and paste my own thoughts....
I didn't mind the dark.."real" story or that it ended more differently than anticipated. If you're goin' over the top..just go over the top though--don't play around. That said.....I wish the dream scenes themselves had been more coherent...rather than mixing and matching.....go samurai mystic, but not mixed with gunplay. Zombie steampunk?..cool, but not with mechas. The dragon scene also threw me because it was such a purposeful ripoff of LOTR it wasn't amusing, and I think it was supposed to be. I get where Snyder was going, but it lacked cohesion. It was more his dream world than the main character's. I didn't think it was the worst movie ever , but I can understand those that do think it. The beginning of the movie was waaaaaayyy too slow motion with slap you upside the head camera work. I also agree that the hyper kinetic camerawork is getting old....quick. This was a great concept with a decent plot that was workable. I agree that the characters never pulled you in and they ended up like characters and not people.....stereotypes or something.
