Kreo at Ollie's, but pretty weird pricing. I bought both the Battle Platform Attack and the Cobra Armored Assault for 6.99 a piece. Weird thing is, the Dragonfly was 12.99 and the smaller items like the Checkpoint were 6.99. Prices make no sense, but the larger sets were a great deal.
I was so excited for the find, that the next time I was down in Baltimore, I stopped by the Ollie's in Dundalk and stumbled across the last Dragonfly set for $12.99. Even though this winter has been pretty slow for me workwise, I couldn't pass these up! Thanks to shipwreck73 for the low-down =)

I came across the last three Cobra Armored Assault sets at the Ollie's in Edgewood, MD. The boxes were pretty smashed up and no price tags, so the cashier looked them up in a book and then charged me $4.99 each! Score!

This isn't GIJoe, but I figured I would post anyway. I spotted some Kreo Transformers sets at a Dollar General the other day. There looked to be three different sized sets, all with basic white and red trimmed boxes. The largest looked to include Mirage and the small Optimus truck builds, and corresponding driver humans (Mirage human's head is the one I'm using for Metal Head). Think it was tagged $12

Yesterday I got a Ratchet Kreo set at a Dollar General in the west suburbs of Chicago. The parts were about 25% wrong, with many needed parts missing and many unneeded parts present. I don't know if I just got a bad set or if the bad sets are being dumped into discount stores in low-income neighborhoods; I'll find out when I go back to either exchange or get my money back. Either way, I figured that I'd give everyone this warning.

I took a look tonight and found seven different kits (the $5 section was empty, but I'm guessing those will be the same as the ones that were sold at Big Lots). Don't bother with the Ratchet, Prowl, or Bumblebee/Jazz kits, those are all first generation Kre-O. I picked up the Beast Hunter Optimus Prime kit, which is the Beast Blade Optimus Prime kit in different packaging without the robot mode instructions (but with all of the parts that are only needed for robot mode).
Meanwhile, the prices on remaining Kre-O stock at Toys R Us continue to go down. There's not much left, but anything you can find should be under $5 by now. The shelves are deep, who knows what remains hidden... |

^^^ I'm guessing you were meaning for people not to bother with these sets because they are all the first generation Kreo; but there may be a lot of people who might have missed out on these the first time around.
Case in point: The set with Bumblebee looks to be his black version of the vehicle that originally came in the Stealth Bumblebee set. So anyone who may still be wanting some of those pieces (IE converting a HISS to black) could still find some. Another one could be, Ratchet for anyone needing a white base figure and red hands for customs ;) |

The only Bumblebee I saw was the small version in a two-pack, which has no stealth version. Stealth Bumblebee is second generation, so no problems there. Mixing first and second/third generation Kre-O is like mixing Mega Blocks and Lego, not a good idea. Even third generation Kre-O is getting a bit iffy when it comes to parts fit (and the minifigures have different construction).

Yeah I remembered seeing about that Stealth Bumblebee set in an article, but now that I go back and read it again, it looks like they were only talking about finding that at a Family Dollar? Oops, my bad :/
Toy News: KREO figures found at Family Dollar, Dollar General | BWTF Still, I've bought literally dozens of those first transformers sets with little to no problems with clutch or fitment. I guess I've just been extremely lucky in that regard. The only real issues I've remembered having has been with some of the Kreons. Loose legs, hair pieces that fall off, and that damn Major Bludd helmet! Oh, and the chromed Destro and CC heads I've tried are kind of loose on the head studs. I know others have had a lot more issues than I, so I'm definitely not trying to gloat or anything. Just listing my experiences from over the past couple years. I'm guessing Gen 2 would be the sets with the energon weapon pieces, correct? |

Interesting, it looks like that is a Dollar General kit, possibly a second wave. Yeah, the energon weapon pieces were in some of the first kits that could be considered second generation (along with all Battleship, Star Trek, G.I. Joe, and D&D kits). Parts fit was a lot better, human figures had rounded shoulders, and some of the parts were shaped differently. The first generation parts will still mostly work, but the looser tolerances can be a problem. Second generation seems to be the sweet spot before mold wear came into play, so hopefully most of these are straight repacks and not new production. Good timing though, my area is down to one Transformers kit between all of the TRUs and I can always use more parts (especially from kits I passed on at full price).
