Wow! One image from his entire career that's cherry picked and used to be posted online a decade ago when the meme started. Lots of artists have bad art they've done. That Captain America image wasn't even from a high point in his career, that was after Image comics was created and Rob wasn't meeting deadlines by finishing art on time and sometimes turning in garbage art like the Captain America pic you posted, because he was 19-years-old when he suddenly became a major artist and also started making bad business decisions. He ended up kicked out of Image as a result. And his Image books suffered because the whole concept of Image was originally based around the artists, not the writers, with artists thinking they were fully capable of writing as well as penciling their books.

Rob could have done strictly titty-Caps all his life and screwed over everyone he came into contact with, and he'd still be miles ahead of the coloring book reject in this series.

“Lots of artists have bad art they’ve done”
And some artists have done lots of bad art. And that’s okay, actually. I’ve read a lot of books that I loved that had substandard art. The writing is more important. Rob’s art is a mediocre Jim Lee rip-off when it’s okay, and hilariously in your face awful when it’s not. That’s why the guy became a meme. More swords, more pouches, more bendy barrelled ridiculous BFGs... the dude’s aesthetic starts a “immature for his age 8 year old just saw his first Rambo movie” and goes down from there.

Call this book something else because it isn't G.I. Joe. It's like someone wrote a story and after the fact changed a few names to capitalize on the Joe brand. And the art is downright terrible. I'll stick with ARAH and hold out hope for Liefeld's Snake Eyes series. This series is D.O.A.

G.I. JOE is a comic based on children's toys. The reason any of us read it today is because of what JOE meant to us as kids and young adults. If Hama had started the series with this current issue, would any of us be reading it still? Imho: if G.I. JOE doesn't appeal to contemporary children, it will die with our generation.

In the grand scheme of things, I think we already are an obscure fan group.

Not surprised to see the same hipsters who defended this scarecrow of a comic book tooth and nail are the same crew who are piling on a legitimate comic creator like Liefeld. For the record, here's some work from universally respected legends.
