Hey guys. So ive never really been into video games, the only system Ive ever owned is an NES, that I actually still have and play.
But I just saw that Tron movie, and I gotta tell you....when he flipped on the power to Flynn's arcade...and all the machines came on with all those lights and sounds, it was like magic. It totally transported me back into time when I was a kid and we used to play quarter after quarter of video games. I know that the home entertainment system and online gaming killed arcades (other than Dave and Busters, etc) but wouldnt it be sweet if old school arcades came back? Do you think its possible? See this video....majic, Im telling you.... |

I'd love to see this happen, but I think the new "arcade" are these computer gaming rooms you see in the mall sometimes. Just a room full of computers and everyone plays network games and such.
Although I think there is still a very small arcade in one of the malls around me. If it wasn't for overpriced games (most are $1 per game now days) I'd probably try out the arcade more. |

Arcades can come back, but they can't be geared towards teens. So here's the plan... Strippers, drinks, and classic gaming. Kinda like chuck e cheese with boobs. And you don't have to stop there. You can have D&D tables, comics and all kinda nerd social stuff, only with a party atmosphere that all nerd parties are lacking.

I doubt we'll see them the way we remember them in malls and stuff.
Kids are pretty damn content at fighting for rank and title online..long gone are the days of putting your quarter up for a crack at the high score. I do think we should see more places like Dave & Busters though. Let's face it, coin-op games are appealing to the 30 someodd yr old kid. D&B is cool, but there are plenty of times I just want to play some arcade games...I dont need a full menu or skee-ball. A small place with Galaga, Street Fighter II and some pinball would be fine...throw in a small bar and a TV with a game on and I think a place like that could clean up. |

I think they could make a comeback if they gave an experience that cannot be found at home. Namely, a really high end 360 degree, 3-D, game like a virtual reality experience. I'm thinking a total immersion experience for a game like Call of Duty or World of Warcraft. Also, you could pay to play for a set time and each machine is universal so that you can choose a variety of games on each individual machine.
