Anybody catch Donald Trump on Fox last night? He had some amazing ideas on how to create jobs but one of the first examples he gave was about toys. He said (more or less) "Toys. why are all the toys made in china? Why don't we make toys here in Alabama for example. Labor is cheaper over there, I know. But what if we slap a 25% tax on toys we bring in from China? Plus the standards over there are lower and we run the risk of kids getting lead poisoning and such. Make toys in america."
I'm sure he said it better but I found it interesting and wonder, who'd be willing to pay more for Joes if it meant more americans could go back to work? Would you?

If they were more expensive I would have to buy less of them. I can only spend so much on toys.

I would pay more for toys made in the USA. Just imagine looking on ebay to see POC wave 4 from somone sneaking them out of the Alabama factory.

Careful, you're throwing around the Socialism. If China is more competetive and cheaper than the U.S they should be making the toys. Why not just leave the toys where they are made and have add on a tax over here. We'll end up paying the same and still get the toys.

In the next decade you'll be hearing a lot of economic protectionism arguments coming from politicians and talking heads on TV. Just make sure you understand the ramifications. If a regular GI JOE 3 3/4" action figure cost $15, how many could the average collector buy? |

Sure, it's called economic protectionism (Protectionism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), far from an amazing new idea. However, if you need to tax foreign toys by 25% to make feasible buying them U.S.-made, then it stands to reason that the price of toys will increase substantially and out of the budget range for many consumers.
