I've had no problems shipping internationally. The only extra time is filling out the customs form. The international buyers I've dealt with have been really nice and really patient. As long as you're up front with what you're selling and how much it's going to cost them. I always include extra for eBay fees, PayPal fees, package costs, and even gas. I'm selling these items to make money. Not lose any. Most people are understanding, appreciative, and just glad they're able to get an item they want.
It's been my fellow Americans that have been impatient, untrusting, quick to judge, and always looking for a way to get money back. I actually had a buyer claim that a Sigma 6 figure I sold her had "obvious wear", which was a lie considering all I ever did was open it, pose it, put it on a shelf, and barely touched it again until I boxed it to ship. I've had some good buyers too. I sold my BBI Blackhawk and Apache and put the Blackhawk blades in the Apache box and vice versa. (Hey, they looked the same to me!) Both buyers were very understanding and, of course, I paid for them to ship the blades to each other. It's a crap shoot, but that's what you have to deal with if you want to sell items.

Excellent point. Which is to say the author of this thread was not adequately prepared at the time of the shipping quote; fully knowing the weight, optimised shipping container, best available carrier , etc. This unpreparedness drove up the cost considerably. It is therefore not appropriate to try to re-coop after the sale and pass these errors on to the buyer; who has a reasonable expectation of a modest handling charge.

On my shipping, I always shoot high instead of low, and if I overshoot by more than a couple of dollars, I've even given refunds. That always makes a buyer happy.

I'm from Toronto and have shipped from there to the States and Puerto Rico. But I now live in the Dallas area and have shipped back up to Canada. I've never had problems getting my stuff to the buyer/trader.
The only time I've had issues was my very first eBay win back in 2000, some Transformers I bought got held up in Canadian customs for about two months, but I ended up getting them just fine. And McKee, it's good to hear you and the buyer sorted it out alright. Last edited by solid_strider; 10-14-2008 at 12:40 PM.. |
