Recently I had a lot of front end work done on my lumina apv van, (alignment, hub baring) and new tires from Wal-Mart........The last thing the tires is the issue, I bought the extended warranty, and was generally satisfied with everything..........That was 2 months ago, yesterday I like I do every week was checking my tire pressure and noticed that the tires in the front were showing wire threads, so I get in and drive to the shop where the alignment was done, and they checked it, everything perfect, the problem is the tires, I get a copy of the printout and head to wal-mart (TLE closed at 8 so I had to wait till this morning, but I call ahead and speak to the Dept. Mgr, and he looks up my account tells me I'm covered and to bring it in, so this morning, I head to wal-mart, and get the.....morning of my lifetime, I get told that the tires are not the problem, I'm told that it's a front end problem (keep in mind I worked as a service tech for 10 years, so I know how to check my vehicle)....I'm polite and ask to see the mgr of the dept. that I have already spoke to the evening mgr....I explain and show my paperwork showing that the alignment is good, and that there's an issue with the tires.........I then get talked to like I'm a 5 year old by the Dept. Mgr!......I ask about my warranty, and told I'm going to have to pay for the tires to be replaced....WTF???? I explode and tell him that No, it's clearly a tire issue, I point out the stress crack clearly showing on the tires that my other service tech had found (a clear marker of a tire problem) I'm then told that there's nothing they can do........................My point? I wasted my time, and money at wal-mart (and if my wife didn't work there I'd never go back)!!!! Yes, I'm Pissed, What to do next?

Report them to the better business bureau or whatever other body keeps track of rip-offs. Or perhaps to one of those local news "consumer watchdog" type things. Nothing bothers a business more than bad publicity.

Definately talk to corporate. This seems like so much BS....even if there were no problems they should have just given you new tires!

I don't know that "corporate" is the best place to get results quickly, but escalation would be the first step toward getting this resolved. The department manager has a boss. Speak with him/her first.

Not a bad idea, but you can't wait that long to replace your tires. Safety is paramount; money is secondary (even in today's economy). Speaking of safety first, my unsolicited advice is to have vehicle maintenance performed somewhere other than Wal-Mart in the future.

For one thing, tires are something that need to be dependable. What the fudge were you thinking in buying something that needs to have a certain level of quality, from Walmart?!? It really is a shame that this happened to you, but this type of thing is much too common at the trailer-trash of retailers. I hope things work out for you, but the deck is stacked against you.

Speak with the store manager. It works.
I used to take my vehicles to WM for oil changes and tire rotations. Takes a couple hours, but I thought it was worth it to save a few bucks. Then a couple hours turned into half a day. The last straw was when I took my wife's RX300 there for oil and rotation. After four hours of me sitting in the frickin' store waiting, I see the ride sitting in a parking space and inquire. Not only had they not gotten to the tires yet, they hadn't changed the oil BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIND THE OIL FILTER. IT"S A LEXUS, not a Ferari. You see thirty of this vehicle on the streets everyday. Then after another hour they told me her tires had too much wear to rotate, which was ridiculous also. Now I take our vehicles to a Texaco Lube Express or so and not only are they quick and efficient, they are NICE. I will gladly fork over another Hamilton to get the job done right, let alone get it done at all. Btw, this final SNAFU situation at WM came after the prior visit, where they did not put the oil filter on my 4Runner correctly, spilling it everywhere around northern and downtown Birmingham. Had to get the store mngr involved to get my refund. |

I usually get my tires from Sam's, veg. I always get Michelin, which is probably overkill, but they have better prices there than most others. I buy a replacement warranty with them, too, generally costs me around $150/tire.

You know walmat wasn't this bad before Sam died. Just saying his kids are killing the company for a quick buck.

I get my tires from a tire shop, and a locally owned and operated one, at that. All they do is sell tires and perform light maintenance on vehicles. That's their business, so they care about it, because if that goes wrong, they don't have groceries, clothing, cleaning supplies, electronics, and cheap furniture to save the day. Makes a lot of difference. |
