I wish Hasbro would just reissue the original M.A.S.K. vehicles and figures. That would be a good starting point to gauge interest in the property. I know I am just now starting to collect the original line, which I used to have some of when I was a kid.

it is certainly a great children's concept. it doesn't need to be gauged, it needs to be developed and marketed to children. the best way to do that is with a new cartoon on the HUB and new toys, not 20 + year old troys that look old, that certainly isn't going to appeal to children because they will look old and cheap on the market.

Let me get this out of the way early ... this movie will suck, the casting will be bad, the CGI too over the top, Megan Fox will probably star, this movie will touch my childhood memories in inappropriate ways, I hope it's a reboot, I hope they set it in the 80's so we can have the bitchin camaro. Why is Matt Trakker black, Channing Tatum sucks, Hasbro has no idea what fans want, was MASK really popular enough to have a movie, Batman for the Win, Who would you cast in the role of..., I could write a better script, I hope that Bay is/isn't the director, I'm being cautiously optimistic but let me tell you the way in which this will suck....*sigh*

all toys from 25 years ago look 25 years old and terrible compared to todays toys, that's not a knock on MASK. Joes hold up the best because at least the vehicles are still great and make up for the short comings of the figures compared to the modern stuff. Transformers are the freaking worst. Mask figures were pretty terrible then, there is no way they would have any appeal if simply placed blindly on the market today.

I know I've always been waiting for Ike Turner's film (he did promise one was in the works) which explained his side of the story Tina told in 'What's Love Got to Do With it". Of course this could be a long wait what with Ike being dead an all. ANA MAY!!!!!!! Last edited by Owner of a Lonely B.A.T.; 05-26-2010 at 02:47 PM.. |

Here is the thing about MASK - the original cartoon didn't make that much sense. Powered helmets? Vehicles that converted to armored attack craft, but were never driven around except when they are going to be used for that purpose (or at least, they couldn't be powered without the mask, otherwise, why the masks?) Scientists working as special forces (at least 3 lab types in MASK)? A hidden base - but the kid rides around on a transforming robot?
I'm just saying, loved the cartoon as a kid, and is fun to watch even as an adult ... but the whole story/origin/purpose and even characters are going to be so overhauled, it will bear little comparison to the original. Jem ... well, it might actually work

ya know, honestly i could see MASK working as a movie property even more then Joe.
it's a smaller cast with a simple concept and far less complicated mythology and smaller fan base, so there's a lot more freedom. The characters are pretty much blank slates ~ as long as Matt Trakker and the Masks are in there i think you could do almost anything. the Sci-fi crap that they tried to show-horn into Joe would be much more @ home in MASK. The Transformation aspect of the vehicles is gonna "wow" kids, make great toys and could be really cool onscreen. I actually think it's got a lot of potential, take Mission Impossible, and cross it with GIJoe and throw in a dash of Transformers and you really might have something.
