Don't matter. Time and time again, numbers have proven to win in aerial combat over high tech planes.
And if it's at all successful, it will be exported to countless other countries, possibly in very great numbers... China will no doubt try to copy the design and might have their own version down the road, too. Still could be a very dangerous adversary for a Western fighter jock, depending on the circumstances. That Iraqi robbed our pilot of a kill because his missile hit the plane after it crashed. |

I don't know, Iraq had plenty of planes. The closest thing they had to a win in the air was when one of thier planes ran out of gas and crashed before our pilot's missle could hit it.

True, but let's be honest, that has as more to do with superior american radar as best overall fighter. Phased radar arrays (which can't be pinpointed) allow us to look up in the sky hundreds of miles away with impunity, and fire a missle against an enemy from god-knows how far, while if they try to set up a regular station we can target it with a cruise missle in ten seconds. It's like bragging how good a shot you are against a guy forced to wear a blindfold. Depending on the stealth capabilities of the Russkie's plane, it might even the odds a little bit, but only time will tell.

That Iraqi robbed our pilot of a kill because his missile hit the plane after it crashed. Some of those planes were buried in sand, for crap's sake.

Not just the planes... We were finding Tanks buried, with the crews in them. When Saddam decided to have a "teachable moment" with his troops, he was pretty serious about it...

Gentlemen, it seems things have just got interesting.
But the damn thing is STILL a year behind schedule. I've said it before: The Tricolors SUCK at deadlines.

Ask most competent US fighter pilots, and they will say they have respect for both the pilots and the modern aircraft and air to air missiles of Russia. In the end, an amazing plane is only as good as its operator. Some of their pilots are very good. Their avionics is behind ours, but a good stick can even that out. In the end, it is good that the Russians continue to push us in aircraft technology so that the US/NATO forces don't become complacent in either their training or R&D.
