Not really know here, been a member for a few years now but have just recently made my first post few days ago. It's refreshing to actually read joe fans who post in a discussion.

Hey everybody,
After signing up about a month ago, and doing a lot of reading, I decided to jump in and say "hello". My name is Bill, and I'm a 43 year old former stockbroker living outside of Dallas, TX. I grew up in Wisconsin, however. I began collecting the 3.75 inch figures when they first came out in the early 80s. In fact, I got my first two figures, Flash and Rock and Roll, right after they were released. I collected up until about age 14 or so, and then just stopped. For nearly the next 30 years, I never thought about G.I. Joe figures. Suddenly, a little over a month ago, it dawned on me that I could collect again as an adult, and since I was looking for a new hobby (something to fill up the abundance of free time I now have, unfortunately), I figured what the heck. I started reading up on yojoe.com, and was completely overwhelmed by all the figures that have come out in even just the past few years. But customizing looked fun, so since then, I've been buying figures (up to about 35 now), and paints/brushes, x-acto knives, etc, preparing to put together my own team. I'll look to buy a few figures here to add to my collection, and I look forward to discussing my new hobby with all of you. I am friendly, and honest to a fault, and while I don't yet have any feedback from toy forums (I am an active member on joecustoms.com, same user name, but have only bought a few items), I will build my reputation here the old fashioned way. In the mean time, people are free to look over my EBay feedback. Favorite figures? Hmm. My favorites as a kid were always Snake Eyes, first and foremost, followed by Airborne, Gung Ho, Duke and Ripcord. I used to run the last four guys together, and parachute them into trouble, and destroy Cobra wherever they were found ;) My Sudden Death moniker is based off of a custom Joe character I am developing. It is partly based off of my life experiences, and partly fictional. Sudden Death will be my team leader (the rest of the team being comprised of existing Joes). The character, like me, grew up in Wisconsin, and was a skiing enthusiast. The story is that Sudden Death was a world class biathlete in training for the Albertville Winter Olympic Games in 1992 when a broken ankle prior to the Games prevented him from competing. Six months later, while preparing for the Lillehammer Games in 1994, Sudden Death had a change of heart. After winning the Wimbledon Cup in 1993, he was approached by a Navy recruiter, and asked if he'd like to put his shooting skills to use in service for his country. Two months later, at age 22, Sudden Death joined the Navy. Sudden Death served as a S.E.A.L. sniper before being invited the commando unit DEVGRU. Seven years after joining the Navy, he was personally recruited into the G.I. Joes by General Hawk. Sudden Death brings a diverse skill set to the Joes. He has had advanced training in extreme environments. He is a certified jump instructor. And, in addition to his sharp shooting skills, he has had extensive training in martial arts, beginning with Aikido at age 15, and later progressing into Kendo. He learned strong defensive skills from Aikido, becoming a master of locking techniques to disable would be attackers. In Kendo, he studied the use of the Japanese Katana sword. Anyhow, I look forward to getting to know you, and once I have put together my custom figure, I will share pictures. It will be a while, though, as I am trying to develop multiple setups at the same time. Bill |
