Saw this story on the net and it was on the radio today also.
H&M and Wal-Mart destroy and trash unsold goods - Fashion + Beauty on Shine Yeah it may not mean much to us, but this is completely ridiculous. We knew they did this to toys and other stuff but for crying out loud... we are talking about clothes here that could have went to needy people during the cold spell. There were also Jackets with the arms ripped off of them and sweaters with holes in them. I know there are homeless people out there who dig through garbage for stuff just to try to get by, but even they don't stoop to this low. If Wal Mart can't sell it, then they will trash it instead of donating it to people who are down on there luck and are having a hard time recovering. No.. we can't buy the homeless person something everyday but if we can donate something that is good to them then we should. I know I always try to donate my unwanted goods to churches and Salvation Army as often as I can and my kid has a ton of toys she is willing to donate. But we don't load it all up in the back of the truck and take it to the dumpster. Retailers need to start thinking of other people instead of the bottom line. Have a heart dammit! |

Yeah, that's some shite. You'd think they'd wanna improve their public image a bit with all the controversy that surrounds their habits (ie: closing down stores at the slightest hint of... GASP... UNION)
The only thing their good for anyways is the exclusives ;)

But if you further read the article, several representatives state that this was an oversight and it wont happen again.

You know farmers do this all the time AND are subsidized by the US government to do it for the sake of supply & demand. Sad but true.

Come to think of it, where do you think McD's does with all it's sausage mcmuffins, hash browns at what not at 10:30am? I'm pretty sure they don't save the cooked product for selling it next morning or donate it to a shelter.
