As much as we all make jokes about in-laws, this is the exception.
Kenneth Keller was my wife's stepfather (and my father-in-law) and the only one she called "Dad". He treated me like one of the family, even though he was very introverted and hated shaking hands...but he extended his hand to me and we shook hands. A few years ago, he called us (I was unemployed at the time) and said he needed a ride to the hospital for surgery. This was a shock for several reasons: 1. He had 3 other people that could have driven him in the immediate area. 2. He asked someone else for a favor, which is not like him at all. 3. He asked US first. But Donna and I saw him yesterday at the hospice wing of the hospital. He was once a burly 250 lb. man with a lot of color in his cheeks...until his bone marrow crystallized and stop making blood in August 2009. He passed on at 6:20 this morning, as if he was waiting for Donna and I to see him first. So, there you have it. Whatever customs are being made for me I'll post sometime...but other than that, I'm off the boards for a while for conversations. Last edited by M. Aster Karver; 01-05-2010 at 09:56 AM.. |

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Family is family, and it hurts to lose one that you love.
