I think nearly every Joe fan or toy fan on this website has dealt with this issue their whole adult life. (no offense to the Female toy fans out there)
Why can't guys have their stuff on display? Women have there houses or apartments full of ceramic dolls, and sculptures, and unicorns, Why can't guys have their stuff on display? God knows almost every woman in america has there house or apartment full of little sculptures, and snow globes, and music boxes, and precious moments, and whatever else they like. Rarely does anybody criticize a woman for having these mass produced "collectables"... But have a guy want to display their Joe toys, or Sports stuff and people say he is childish. What the F*ck?!?!? Why is the stuff guys like considered an eye sore, or immature, or just plane "tackey". I watch those design shows and the first thing they want to hide is the Husband's Stereo and big screen TV. Well I'm sorry but I think that is bull shit.

Because people have stigmatized toy collectors. Just take the movie the "40 Year Old Virgin". This is how toy collectors are perceived by the public. "It's not cool" to display toys but ceramic gnomes and beer bottles and streets signs are apparently. It's all subjective really but being "manly" or "mature" according to some means you have to watch sports all day and memorize players and hundreds of boring stats. However, if you read comics, you're a dork. It's all BS.

I related to the 40 Year Old Virin too much-well everything but the pot smoking, binge drinking, bed hopping, being a 40 Year Old Virgin part.

You, my friend, are right about double standards. But when it comes to women, you can be right or you can be happy.
Being married over 13 years, I've come to realize that some things just aren't worth arguing about. I figure as long as I've got space to put my stuff and retreat from the world now and then, I'm doing pretty good. My wife doesn't display too much frilly stuff, but it is funny because I'll complain about her buying something and she'll say, "but it's for you too, because it will make the house look beautiful." Well, OK. Just think, if you were a rock star and MTV did a Cribs show with you and you had Joes displayed throughout the house, you'd be totally cool!

I have a room full of my stuff, my wife has a room full of her stuff.
She's got the kitchen. I've got the living room. She decorates one bathroom, I've got another. Relationships are a give and take. Thats what makes it work. |

I am lucky enough to have a wife that is a toy collector as well, so it is not an issue with us.

If a girl collects dolls she's normal. If a guy collects toys he's a nerd. Sure that sucks, but society makes it up to us guys with the Pimp / Slut double standard.
