O.k. folks here's the LD:
I sold 4 guitars last Monday (Dec.14) on ebay. Three of the winning bidders paid within the first twelve hours and their guitars have already been shipped and received. The fourth winning bidder has yet to pay for the guitar he won. I've sent about 3 different invoices and 1 e-mail and I haven't received response or payment. However, in all of my auctions I state that the winner has 7 days from the date the auction closes to pay for their items. This means that the winner still has until tomorrow night at almost midnite to pay for the guitar. My dilema is that if this guy isn't going to pay for the guitar, then I really need to re-list it tonite. I've found Sunday evenings to be the best time to list items. If everyone pays quickly then I can get the items out on Monday or Tuesday so that the shipping won't be delayed for 2 days because of the weekend. I checked this guy's feedback and he's new (feedback score is 11 with 100% positive) to ebay, but since December 1st he has spent over $17,000.00 on other guitars and related musical equipment. He's purchased several vintage Gibson's and Martin's for thousands of dollars each. He also received feedback for other items that he purchased at the same time that he won my auction. I looked up his info and found his phone number, but I really don't know if I should call considering the 7-day time period that I specify in my auction listing. Do you guys think I should call him or wait for the payment? Go ahead and re-list and then if I receive payment, end the listing and send the guitar? Not sure what to do here. Comments and opinions would be appreciated. Last edited by NC Joe; 12-21-2009 at 04:38 PM.. Reason: Update |

I'd wait til tomorrow.
If he doesnt pay then you file an ebay non-payment claim thing (never had to do one myself) and then relist. If you relist now and he sees it, there may be some repercussions there where he can claim he had 7 days to pay and you relisted before the allotted time was up. Cover your own ass and just wait til tomorrow. Calling his probably won't yield any other results. If he isn't going to pay then calling won't do anything. I know you'd rather relist tonite but to be on the safe side wait until tomorrow. Then file the non-paying bidder thing with ebay and relist it. thats my opinion

I know youre in a tough spot with wanting to re-list tonight, Ive been there but you should give him the benefit of the doubt and wait till tonight. I say wait till tonight, but only early evening. Give him till like 6-7 p.m. then just give a courteous call to ask if he was still interested.
This happened to me before waaay back when and I sent things that I didnt yet recieve payment for as an act of good faith...talk about wet behind the ears. I ended up with phone arguments with the guys wife and a bunch of ebay drama. I finally got paid, but it all could have been resolved by just calling before and getting each others facts straight. Give it a few hrs and call to see whats up, get a straight answer and either sell or re-list. Good luck. |

you should wait for the grace period of seven days to end...but dude 17000 on guitars in a month screams of fraud in my eyes at least granted he could be rich but i lean on the side of the norm...i would wait the seven days and immediately file the claim and pray he accepts the strike and moves on

You can always relist it and then if he DOES Pay you can end the listing early. No Harm No Foul.

Just call the guy. It's Xmas, he may have forgotten. He may be snowed in on the highway somewhere in the NE. He may just be forgetful. Call the dude...it can't hurt and so what if you piss him off in the process. He should have paid you by now.

I sent him an e-mail around noon asking him to let me know if he doesn't want the item anymore, so that I can re-list it. I haven't heard anything from him yet.
His address is Nashville, not sure if they got any of the snow or not. I used to live there so I would say that more than likely they didn't. So...who knows? As of now I kinda think I'm not gonna hear from him. I have to agree with The BLAY, I don't think calling is going to do any good. If he was going to pay he would have by now, or at least answered my e-mails. |
