There were gifts that I got and, at the time, did not appreciate them. Like the gloves, underware and winter coats I always got from my grandparents. When I was a kid, I had no appreciation for them, but now I realize I actually had a need for them; they were practical and useful. Besides, my parents got me toys and the grandparents really didn't know which toys I would have wanted.
My stepfather's parents got me CORPs figures one year. I'd have traded all 15 of them for one real GI Joe. But, they turned out to work fine for battle field fodder. Over all, though, I think I've always faired pretty well over the last 30 years. |

One Christmas the wife decided to shop for me at KIRKLAND'S (this place: Kirkland?s ? Distinctive & Uniquely Fashionable Home Décor And Affordable Gifts)!!! What was ironic was the Kirkland's at our mall back then was right by Kaybee, Camelot, Spencer's and Radio Shack.
She could not figure out why I was not smiling and made her return everything to that crappy ass store. One time my wife tried to get me to take our boy into the place in a stroller. I refused. |

For one elementary school gift exchange I got a ceramic frog.
The girl who got my name got me a the kind of ceramic frog with the wide mouth and hollow body, that you put on your kitchen sink and put scouring pads in. Great present, skank. Hope you enjoyed your Polly Pocket because I smashed your ceramic frog in the parking lot on my way to my dad's car after school. |

A woodburning set. From my mom.
My parents were notorious for getting me knock off stuff. If I wanted SW, I got blackhole. Joe and I got plastic army men. Hot wheels and I got the cheap ass cars. I can count on 1 hand the number of things I got for Christmas that I actually wanted.

Wow - more bad childhood gift exchance memories...
Someones parents let them buy me a Do-It-Yourself Stained Glass Kit for me. I WAS IN 1st GRADE. Nothing screams inappropriate self-mutilation like a hot oven, tiny glass beads and sharp wire. Great present, next year maybe I can get that blowtorch and chainsaw I always wanted. |
