I sold a Motorcycle fuel tank on Friday for $15 and $15 shipping based on weight. The buyer is from California and shipping is twice as expensive...which means if I ship it...I'm paying him to take it and losing money.
You can bet your bottom dollar that I am canceling this sale and refunding his money today. What do you think about that? 1- the sale was for $15 (item) and $15 (shipping) when you posted the sale 2- it's actually costing twice as much to ship because the winner is in california Is that correct? If it's wrong, then disregard what follows, lol If you try to cancel the sale, I'd hit you up with whatever buyer protection is offered or whatever. It's not my fault you underestimated the cost of shipping. The deal, agreed to by both parties, was for 15 and 15. That's the problem with internet sales and putting a shipping total ahead of time. Unless the auction had it listed as (minimum 15 shipping based on location) or something like that, then you're going to lose some money and it's not the buyers fault, it would be your own for not accounting for the possibility that shipping could be higher. So yeah, as a buyer I'd be pissed if you canceled the sale, again it wasn't the buyers fault that the shipping is less, it's yours. And the buyer shouldn't be accountable for your mistake.

The seller is totally in the wrong....so sorry you have to deal with this nonsense
..... I can't help however smirk at the "This Time The Bear Ate You" line. You know one of two things 1) He has had this line in his back pocket waiting to bust it out at the right moment or 2) he is like a broken record using this line 8-10 times a day. |

Technically he's not though, that's the problem. The auction didn't specify combined shipping. So in reality the buyer is at fault for not paying attention to the terms of the sale.
But yes, the seller is a complete douche for not being willing to combine shipping for the chance for repeat business and at the very least a satisfied customer that will in turn leave good feedback. Most businesses will do that, cut someone a deal, if there's a chance for repeat business from that customer. So the seller isn't wrong at all, not in the least bit. He's trying to make himself some extra bucks, and the buyer just didn't pay attention. Sucks, but that's the truth of it. As a "good" businessman, the seller should be willing to work with the buyer. Since he's not, he's a douche.

only thing with this is there is a bug in ebay that doesnt quote the right shipping price. its happened to me. If you put the package specs in and ebays shipping calculator is off then how is it the buyers fault?
give the specs to the buyer (box size and weight) and the zipcodes (yours and his) and let him look it up. once he sees your not ripping him off then that should take care of it. Quote:

give the specs to the buyer (box size and weight) and the zipcodes (yours and his) and let him look it up. once he sees your not ripping him off then that chould take care of it. There's ways around everything, most people are reasonable and not looking to rip anyone off. Talk to the buyer, do what Blue said, show that the shipping price that was originally quoted was way off and that an increase in shipping isn't trying to rip the buyer off. But realize that the terms are 15 and 15, might get lucky and the buyer agree to pay the increased shipping or the buyer may agree to pay an additional 10-15 in shipping to help cover the increased cost. Personally if I ever do any selling thru EBay, I'll set my shipping cost based on shipping from NH (where I am) to California (furthest away without having to pass other countries) and use that as my shipping fee with a note that shipping will be adjusted based on location. That way both parties are covered. Since I'm a good guy, if it's less then I'll bill or refund the buyer for the difference. If it's more I had the cavaet that the shipping would get adjusted depending on location so I'm covered there.

The problem is...the seller does not combine shipping prices because that is where his profit is. Just because he does not offer combined shipping does not mean that he can't put the items in the same box.
This way is NOT the best for the buyer, but the buyer agreed to it by purchasing the items. If something looks strange, ask questions before jumping the gun on the buy button. As buyers we all have 50% responsibility of the contract, and you should not enter into that contract until you are fully satisfied with the deal that you will received. You need to factor in feedback and shipping costs and time frame into that contract as well. If you didn't ask, that's a shame. I'm not taking the sellers side, he sounds like a big ol D-bag...I am simply stating that you are partly to blame for not verifying any of this before purchase. My suggestion would be to offer "nicely" to the seller taht you would like to cancel the transaction officially through eBay. This can be done if the seller sends you the proper form to agree to. If he does this his sellers fees will be reversed and no one loses. |

Yeah, but this didn't sound like a problem with EBay's calculator. Sounds like 15 was the estimate and was just proven wrong.
