So, I may be in Chicago during the week of June 26th. I've never been to any of the big comic book or toy conventions. I thought this was a great chance to attend one of the bigger ones. My question to all of you is, is it worth it? Does Hasbro ever sell any of their exclusives at the Wizard World Tour conventions? Like what? If so, how likely can I obtain one of these exclusives there?
What else is there to do at these conventions? How long are the lines for the different companies? How was your experience? Thanks. Gaelinic Last edited by Gaelinic; 02-25-2008 at 05:56 PM.. |

I've been there the last three years, mostly because my brother is a comic book writer/artist and is always signing books and selling original art at the Top Shelf Booth. When I go he's always introducing me to other comic book writers/artists/editors and what not. It's definitely worth checking out if you get the chance. Two years ago, I was able to train with some IFL coaches and fighters. That was my highlight of the whole show.
There's always a ton of free stuff to grab too. I didn't see a Hasbro booth last year. In fact, I really didn't see a lot of GI Joe merchandise for sale. I'm sure I'll be going this year again. |

I live in the area & I think the convention is IGGHT. I usually work a booth with my friend who owns a Japanese toy store. I guess because I work it does not seem as great as it is advertised.

As for the show itself. It's definitely not what it used to be before Wizard bought it. I've been there as just an attendee and as a registered guest in the Artist Alley. I went in 2006 for the first time since 1998 (and I had gone every year since 1992 to it) and was quite disappointed by it. I wasn't able to make it last year and I'm still not sure if I'll be attending this year. It's a cool show (not spending more than one day at) if you don't know what you are missing (from past years) or can't make it to the biggers shows like San Diego Comic-Con or NY Comic-Con. As for Hasbro selling stuff, I don't even recall them being there in 2006 (or ever) when I was there. It seemed like less and less companies were attending. This is/was because the SDCC was right before it and people were burned out by the time Chicago came around. Last edited by WildWeasel; 02-25-2008 at 07:49 PM.. |

Top Shelf Productions:
http://www.topshelfcomix.com/creator...725ad41cd3602a Scroll down to Jeffrey Brown I've met a lot of Chicago Based Comic Creators through him. It's good to be connected. He always gets me GI Joe comics too. It's a trade off for writing about me in his books I guess. If you're a Transformers fan you should check out his Incredible Change-Bots: http://www.topshelfcomix.com/catalog...e=19&title=562 Hilarious! (Shameless plug) |
