You'd think 6 years of writing intensive college classes... being a poetry major etc... would make it ... easier?
or something. the thing is my mother was ...mmm... popular... that's the word i'm looking for but not the word I mean. there's already 300 people coming to her service which we are holding in a park. I mean... I don't want to leave anything out. I don't want to let her down. I don't want to embellish. I don't want to force it. i mean she was basically survived by everyone she ever helped... survived by those she helped survive. she kinda treated family and stranger on the same level. ideas?

I'd like to start by saying I'm sorry for your loss. With something like this it is hard to put your feelings into words regardless of who you are or what you do. Even what may seem the most heartfelt to others won't scratch the surface of your own feelings. But just keep in mind an obituary and a eulogy are two different things.

Gyre, if you're writing and delivering the Eulogy then as long as it comes from your heart it's going to be perfect! You'll probably never find every word or all "the right words" to describe your mom, but if you let it all come from within it will be perfect! Again I'm sorry for your loss bro

Keep it short and sweet, man. Speak the truth - speak of her as you know her, and share that with everyone who may not have known her in that way.

A Eulogy on the other hand can be as long and artful as you like.

I'd have to agree. The answers are in those words right there, especially the last three lines.

I think just by talking about what she meant to you personally would be a great place to start. When my girlfriend's grandmother passed away, she talked about how her grandmother fulfilled the role of her father and friend.
