Of course if you were a manager and gave a toy away instead of destroying it, it could come back to bite you in the ass if it got back around to corporate.
I used to work at Family Dollar and had to throw away a little food. A good manager would mark the soon to expire stuff down to like 10 cents or something really cheap that way it doesn't have to get thrown away. But the poster who said you can't sell or give away expired food is correct. You could get in big trouble for that even if we all know the stuff is still good shortly after the expiration date. Anything that had to be thrown away had to be destroyed first. Food opened and dumped then something foul poured over it. Hardline items smashed. Clothing torn. Never did have to throw away a Joe. They sold too well. This was when the $2 single carded JvsC repaint forst started coming out. |

I know GameStop has a ton of stuff they end up having to 'destroy' and by 'destroy', I mean whoever is working at the time puts it in their car.

Your plea will go unheard, simply put, they don't care.
To put it the long way, the American way is to waste as much as possible. Go ask Blockbuster what they do with old movies. It's a hoot. They destroy all the disks, cases, and artwork. Any idea how many they destroy per store? A *lot*. Imagine if all of the resources used in the products stores destroy/energy they use to make them got put to better use. Yea. It's a very stupid policy, and it is extremely wasteful. We did "field destroy" some crappy stuff though because it's fun to smash things with hammers.

that is really wasteful indeed, you would think the lady would atleast give it to you rather then throw it away, its a shame really, hopefully they will change the store policy eventually., donating these to charity would be the way to go that way atleast someone can get some use out of a perfectly good toy.

I know I've seen a post on here about someone who found some joes in a Family Dollar dumpster, well I found out today that it's company policy to throw away anything that rings up as "Item Not Found"
Today I found a 2004 VvV Skysweeper Jet (This is the original version of the Crimson Hydra from the movie line) on the shelves of a Family Dollar store. It had a preprinted price tag of $10 and a ripped of clearance stiker under that. I figured I'd take it up front and see what price it ringed up at. Well it came up as "Item not found" and the lady told me she had to throw it away! I asked if there was a manager because I'd gladly pay $5 for it and she told me how th manager was out for the day and she was left in charge. I then asked well can you sell it for the preprinted price tag of $10? Nope, gotta throw it away. I left and called a friend who said I should have asked if I could take out the trash I stopped at another FD and asked them if this was normal procedure thinking maybe it's just that store, but nope, guy told me this is what they do and if the item rings up at 1 or 2 cents, then it's a recall. He said he just threw out some Power Ranger thing last week I don't see why they don't at least donate the items to Goodwill like Target does, there was evean a Goodwill store right next door to them Anyway, here's a letter I sent to Family Dollar's executive offices in the hopes that they'll stop throwing away stuff they can sell or donate: |
