I was off work at the mall and just out of High school.
Some skater punks that were under my grade were walking up in my direction. One yelled out to me "HEY MAN F' YOU!" all while giving me the bird. I wrote it off and continued down the mall. I later saw some wanna be gangstas that all looked like Fred Durst of Limp Biskit. This was circa 99'. They were all outside smoking cigarettes. I step outside and tell'em that a group of skater were down by the fountains making fun of them and talking smack about them. I said I knew they liked to take care of their business. Needles to say the group of young gentlemen quickly put out their cigarettes, thanked me and went on their way. |

And these stories, are a reason why Omega Wrath should suggest the Civil thread as well. It's always good to be patient and understanding with someone first, because you haven't walked a mile in their shoes. My heart goes out to all of you. I have very minimal retail experience but my story is anything but horrific. Sam Goody, awesome management, good hours, free cd's. Caldor, awful management but I stole from the place blind. and West coast video, I was a cashier, had a close friend who was manager, she'd bring up my cash totals before I counted out my drawer, if I was over we'd keep it and split it 50/50. I don't do that anymore of course and stealing is wrong, but back then, screw da man that's my motto!

not retail, but I was in the ER once and needed to start an IV on a patient that was being irrate/rude and combative i.e using his nasal canula as a whip like indiana jones. I proceeded to get the largets bore needle I could find and he looked at me and said " is this going to hurt"?...I nonchalantly replied..."This is not going to hurt me a bit"!!!!!! LOLOLOL

When I was working at Blockbuster, many years ago, we had a 'membership sign up' desk, right inside the front door. It was all windows in front, and behind the desk was all window.
So I'm working first till (about 10 feet from the front door (the main till was a diamond shape that extended from the front door, around to the exit, with the tills being off the third face) and I hear a loud crash behind me. Some drunk had put the 'no parking' sign through the window, and it sat laying on the membership desk. The same guy then proceeded to come into the store (fully drunk...obviously) and go about looking for movies to rent. He was still looking when the cops showed up.

I was working at the Oakridge Market back in about 94 or so. This lady comes in one night and she wants a case of Nursoy baby formula for her kid. It's made with soy instead of dairy and we was allergic. I felt bad for the kid but we didn't keep the stuff in back and we only had 5-6 cans on the shelf and her WIC coupon called for 24.
Sucks to be her, right? I mean, I can't just bend over and crap out a case of formula now can I? So this is when things get interesting. The lady first begins to berate me severely. I gotta admit that I didn't really react to that though. I was a seventeen year old working in retail. A severe berating was nothing new to me. I'd been working there for three years at that point. After a few minutes the woman starts PICKING UP the cans of Nursoy we have and THROWING THEM on the floor. I know I shouldn't have but I started laughing. Ever seen anything funnier than a 400 lb. woman throwing a temper tantrum while her baby stares at her like she can't be serious? I was at that point where I was very obviously trying to hold it in. Oops. It was at about this time that Two-Ton-Tessa decides that she's going to drag me to the back room to get her the formula she wants. I mean she literally put her big, grubby meat hooks on my arm and was pulling me toward the back room. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't fight back because 1.) She was female and 2.) I would've lost my job. Thank God the manager showed up right about then and threw the lady out of the store. Apparently he had dealt with her in the past, although this was the first time she had ever "assaulted an employee" (his words not mine, even if they are pretty accurate.) That lady never did come in again after that.

I don't work retail but this happened to me on monday at Costco.
Apparently some 50 something East Indian dude left his cart in the checkout to get something so the bagger put it aside and let the other customers through. So the indian dude comes back and tells my dad that he was in line before and my dad says no problem they just moved your cart. So the dude just dumps his stuff on the conveyor and throws his costco card in. Dude didn't care our stuff was on there as well. Indian dude was super pissed. I used to work at a local gas station, on the overnights.
This one night (at about 3AM), a customer comes up to the pump for gas, and afterwards comes in to buy some food. All of a sudden, he starts yelling at me about there not being any cold 2 liters of Pepsi in the cooler (I hadn't had a chance to get in to stock it before 2nd shift left). I apologized a couple of times to the customer, keeping my composure pretty well, until he started calling me lazy. Mind you, I did my best after that, but ended up forgetting to charge him for his gas ($15 worth). I fumed over it for about an hour, then made sure there wasn't anyone in the store and walked into the bathroom. Once the steel door was shut, I took a deep breath and punched the door (hurt like hell, but it felt good). Told the manager the whole story in the morning, and filled out a report the best I could. A couple days later, I walked in the store as a customer and was talking to my manager, and she commented that if you sat on the toilet, you could see the dent I left.

I've noticed quite a few former KB Toys employees here. I managed one in the late 90's - 2001. Any whooo I've got a Walmart story a friend of mine told me. There was this new guy in the toy department who was working freight at lightning speed. Everybody was impressed with how fast this guy worked, and the aisles and overhead were always in perfect order. One time one of the managers asked him how he was working the freight so fast and he replied "I'm just that good!". Long story short it turned out he wasn't working the freight at all. Over the month and a half he worked there he had put thousands of dollars of toys in the trash compactor. Oooh the humanity!
