Lody, that reminds me of my first year at TRU when I had a lady ask for help looking for a particular Barbie doll. After researching storeroom and checking the computer, I told her that all we had was the African-American version. Then she said "I don't want the n****r doll! I want the white doll!" I was rendered speechless and just walked away.

When I was a door agent at ROSS there was a broad that came in and was harassing the customers. My boss had me escort her out of the store and keep her there until the cops came.
Well this b!tch was drunk and later found out high on meth. As I was keeping her outside she stumbled and fell flat on her ass. Worst part was she had on a dress and I swear she was smuggling a wookie under there. I almost threw up. Anyway, she kept calling me Jon (which is not even close to my name) and said she knew everything about me. I told her all I knew about her was she was a f$#king idiot. Now she starts saying I did something to her. After I tell her I wouldn't touch her with rubber gloves and saran wrap all over my body she proceeds to punch me for 2 minutes. I just kept blocking it until the cops got there. Everyone in the store had a good laugh at my expense and I had to go home and decontaminate. I love tweakers. |

I worked at McD's throughout high school and college and I don't understand why most of my customers were allowed out of the house without supervision.
People would blame me for the mistakes the idiots in the back made even though I obviously input the order in correctly and it said so on the receipt. People would treat it like a personal affront if they had to wait 30 freakin' seconds for a new batch of fries to come up. People letting their toddlers walk on my counters or changing dirty diapers on the tables. The worst were always the Happy Meal Toy fanatics. When we had the Beanie Babies promos. I had grown women threatening my life, demanding I search the entire case (about 3' square) for the one she wanted despite the fact that we ran out after the first 6 hours and the Drive-Thru was wrapped around the building and into the lot. There was even a cat fight in the parking lot between two soccer moms. When I moved to State College, PA, for school it got worse. Frat row was down the road so we had the most d-baggiest frat guys wandering in drunk, being abusive to the staff, breaking crap...Not to mention I used to literally get up at 5am so I could walk 45 minutes to work. Luckily our management was awesome and we could be just as abusive back to the idiots. Then they shut down the store to renovate and they had the staff do all the interior cleaning and deconstruction. They literally gave me a sledge hammer (I'm about 5'2" and 110lbs soaking wet) and told me to demolish interior of the walk-freezer in the basement. Though, the dumbest thing I ever saw at work was of my own doing. It was past midnight and I was closing after a 13 hour day. I filled the mop bucket up with scalding hot water and then went to dump in the bleach packet. Except I spazzed and dropped the packet in without opening it. Without thinking I reached into the near boiling bucket of water now filled with industrial amounts of bleach. And the jerks made me mop the floor with my now 2nd degree burned arm. |

alright here is one that I almost had to deal with.
I used to be a manager at a hot topic, we had this insane woman who was rather large and bra-less come into our store, wearing a low cut tore up white shirt and some jean cut off things that dissapeared into her butt crack. I asked her to leave. about 3 minutes later I see all of the mall security come hauling ass down the hall towards the bathrooms. A minute later I hear what sounds like someone killing someone else....out flies previous woman, no pants, boobs flying everywhere with little to cover them, and (this is the best part) a trail of feces flying out of her ass as she runs down the hall...screaming. apparently she had been in the bathroom, writing on the walls with it when she was confronted. WTF.

how do you think I felt?
have you ever seen Reno 911? She was kinda like that lady that they are always having to deal with who tries to steal their nightsticks and is always crying and screaming.

"Young man, you are going to the wrong part of the store for the item I asked for." I tried to explain about merchandising decisions or things possibly being organized incorrectly. Her response: "You obviously don't have the item--are you new here?"
It was there, and I wasn't new.

I was the manager of the store in Ohio that had a law suit against a Nun for hitting an employee with a bible. The girl they hit worked at Dillards also, so she didn't even fit the stereotype. The Nun was trying to toss a bible into the store (for us to read) when we were all setting it up for grand opening.
it was on cnn and everything. 1997ish |

There is one retail job that is not on my resume for a very good reason:
first week a manager says "stock this area with whatever's available in the stock room." What item? "Whatever." I made thought and looked and chose something. She yelled that item _____ which I chose was considered a high theft item and therefore not to be put on the sales floor. I apologized that I hadn't realized that this item fell into that category. I was sent home--for "talking back." I resigned and have worked years in retail at other places _relatively_ happily ever since.
