Drive for five!!!... This much I can appreciate.
BigVig - I hear yah. The season is way too long. They should totally shorten it. Starting with Daytona (as it's tradition) and end it with a Labor Day race. Get rid of the Chase or at least modify it. Make five races sprint style races (kinda like the all-star race) with just the Chase contenders. Lose the races where we've been before. Doesn't make sense to run two races in places like Pocono or Fontana where they can't even fill the seats. Ditch ESPN's coverage because they suck and give us Fox coverage for half and if they must go with a "cable" company, at least TNT has that "race buddy". Sure, it's not like watching on TV, but it's better than not. MRN doesn't broadcast where I'm at. So I'm stuck getting all my info via NASCAR.com. As for racing itself, I still love it. I love the strategy of the race. Smoke, last week running out of gas... priceless because he's usually soooo good at coasting in. A strategy that just didn't work. But the new car and NASCAR's strict rules (ala - Clint Boyer) really take strategy out of the question. Just press the right pedal, turn left, and hope your car can handle it. Anyway, I'm a die hard fan. But I agree... Some changes need to happen.

I like the strategy too... that's why Nascar is so cool... thanks to strategy and a little luck anyone can win; this is not true for any other series like F1 or IRL IMO. But strategy is so dependent on caution flags so people can get out of sequence or try something different. Otherwise the best car will more than likely lead the most laps unless something happens to him or a caution comes out. So like I always find myself rooting for a caution... for the magical "track debris." LOL.

I would shorten the season too.. have no more than 30 races... (and as much as I love the plate races) have no repeat tracks in the schedule and alternate in new tracks every other year. I would also add 1 more road course and A LOT more short tracks.
Since the season would be so much shorter The Chase is no longer necessary IMO. Just add insane amount of extra points for wins and top fives. As for the Chase format. I sorta see the need for it. But I think its far from perfect. Like I said. The problem with the Chase isn't really the chasers but the fact that there's 2/3 of the field that simply aren't racing for a championship. And between affiliations and simple respect for each other, racing a guy hard that's in contention just isn't happening. That's why I say shorten the Chase to a five-race sprint style challenge. Make it like the All-Star race but for the Cup. Skip the qualifying and line them up in the order they finished last week. Assess the points as normal thus keeping the fair advantage to the team that not only wins the most races, but also uses good strategy.

I guess my biggest issue with the chase format is that its so few cars (12 now, but it was only 10 out of 43) and they re-align them by points with points. THATS unheard of in every other sport. First of all, I believe the points system is broken. They need more points for higher finishes and get rid of the BS points like "lead a lap", "lead the most laps" and do away with the points they give to set up the chase like wins, etc. You get 200 points for a win, 180 for second, 170 for 3rd and so on till you hit 10th who gets 100, then they go down by 5. You dont finish a race, you get NO points. Then, when the "playoffs" do come around, go to tracks they havent raced on and let in the top 16 cars. Instead of reassigning points, just have them start the races in the highest points position, i.e., the car in first place points wise starts on the pole and so on. Do that for every race in the chase. It makes it more fair I think, more like a TRUE playoff format like other sports. I think the season needs to end BY Labor Day at the latest. Take out all the POS boring tracks like Pocono. If they are just driving around in circles for 4 hours, it goes. The new cars have made it WAY TOO BORING. Now, Im not one who LOVES the wrecks, but some nice racing where the pack stays together for most of it is way better to watch than circles for 4 hours and 3 cautions for debris. Its just not exciting anymore, ESPECIALLY this time of year, when it should be the MOST exciting. But, those are just my opinions.

3 races in and the 24 is only 58 back... I'll take it! LOL. If it were not for that bad pitstop at Dover he would be even higher too... that's the kind of things that drive me crazy. LOL.
