Also, you'd have to ignor the inverse corollation between the size of a conspiracy and the possibility of it remaining quite. Every time the government tries to do something shady and covert, it gets blown WIDE open the year they do it! Somebody writes a book, somebody makes a deathbed confession, somebody talks in their sleep. Holy crap! A president can't even get a hummer under the table without somebody finding out and reporting it! Conspiracy nuts have this idea of the government as this giant, megolithic machine with operatives that move with terminator-like efficiency, an ideal that the government is only too happy with, but the simple fact is that the people in the higher offices are the same idiots and slobs that we see every day. Even the guys who know what they're doing can't always prepare for the guys that don't. |

The mundane seem more plausible, and it keeps the country's aggressions focused on the Russians.

Show me one movie made in that era that accurately reproduces the effects I described, whatever method they used, and I'll entertain that theory. Keep in mind nobody knew at the time how dust never exposed to an atmosphere would look or behave, so in order to reproduce the unique effects of moon dust, they'd first have to have some to examine. Now that we see it, it makes sense (like a round Earth), but at the time no one knew, no one could've known!

But isn't it plausible that NASA, with all it's funding and tech, could have done a better job of special effects for a short hand-held film than Hollywood? That doesn't seem so crazy. The other thing is: How would anyone have known what it was supposed to look like at that time? NASA could have guessed what it would have done in Zero Gravity, and then showed us that on film. The moon supposedly has 1/6 of the earth's gravity - who on earth could have said, "That's not how dirt works on the Moon when you land on it!" As long as it looked different from earth, who would have known? Intelligence agencies have kept secrets for years... well after the Cold War. Who killed Kennedy? Those guys will never tell us everything. It would ruin our Nation's morale if the public were told the Moon landing was faked. The Astronauts of the 60's and 70's were patriots - they were Cold Warriors, they know how to keep a secret. All those guys have to have Top Secret Clearance. I'm not saying the Shuttle was faked - but the Shuttle can't land on the Moon... isn't that a step back?technologicially?

Even the guys who know what they're doing can't always prepare for the guys that don't. But, as for special effects, how many old Edison films have you seen? Lumiere brothers films? These were made at the turn of the century, and they have better special effects than most films today :P All in camera trickery. You can superimpose a transparency of dust being moved by air vents, fade in and out at times to invoke a sense of gravity-lessness, and put it over a set of suits on a big backdrop. Not, at ALL, saying this is what was done; again, I said earlier, the notion is frankly bogus. But, special camera effects even better than the moon footage had existed long before they sent men up there in tinfoil ^_^

Isn't it possible that a moon landing was faked in a sound studio in the event the real mission was a failure?
America needed a morale boost & the events leading up to & including the moon landing did just that. I have no problem beleiving that there are some who felt that reporting a failue of this endeavor to the public, and worse the world, was not an option. |
