Great news! Couldn't have happened to a nicer Tanker.
Let's hope these types of threads continue to pop up on the Tank. |

Now, if we can only get you to change up the Edward Norton/Italian Job look... maybe flatten the hair and rock some perma-stubble....
"the man" would become The Man!

Hello friends and fellow Tankers,
I wanted to share some of the recent goings on in my life with the fellow faceless denizens of the Tank! If you care to read, please do so, if not... don't. First and foremost, this past July, which some of you already know, I graduated from the Art Institute of California - Inland Empire with my Bachelors of Science in Graphic Design. This was a big achievement for me, since, three years ago, I left behind a very well paying job that made me miserable to try and better my life to pursue a passion. If it wasn't for the support of my wife, family and friends it would not have been possible. Secondly: I am in the process of obtaining a position in the Graphic Design/Media department of a major Southern California institution (which I cannot disclose... yet). This is a big deal for me as well... a kind of validation of everything I strove to achieve over the last three years. 344 people applied for this position, and I was the one they chose. Thirdly (yes, there's more): I was notified by the college campus yesterday that I have been named Valedictorian for the 2009 graduating class. So, on September 25th, not only do I don a cap and gown and move the tassel, but I also get to give *gulp* the Valedictorian speech. I keep trying to think of how to make it not the same old boring speech that you hear at every graduation... and I figured I'd do that with humor. My wife, on the other hand, has warned me against it just in case the comedy runs flat... And to top it all off, I have lost over 22 pounds and 6% of my body fat while doing the P90X program over the last 60 days. And I own a USS Flagg now... Things are going very well indeed... (if you hear a knocking sound it's because I'm knocking on wood as I type this). Me & the wife... |

Congrats my friend. I can't help but think I played a very small role in all this
I 'll admit I got a little motivated by your words. I myself am very unhappy at my choice of career and who couldn't stand to shed a little body fat? I keep telling myself one day I'll find the strength to better myself. Congrats and best of luck to you. I was an office manager for a nursing registry for 5 years, and I have never in my life encountered a group of people that were so just downright nasty in my life. Out of the nearly 200 employees that worked for me over the course of those years, I'd say maybe 5 were decent human beings. I had some die on me from drug & alcohol related problems, and I had one accuse me of being something horrible because I had toys on my desk... Anyway, I'll stop there, because just thinking about it makes my blood begin to boil again. My point is, life is too short to be miserable. If you have an opportunity to make your life what you want it to be, then do it. I am lucky enough to have a wife whose job supported us, and a part-time job that was willing to work around my school schedule. Maybe you could take night classes or something!? |
