Yeah TNA was good tonight, the Dudleys' fighting outside was a long segment, but I just find those 2 guys funny, especially fighting each other. Anytime I see Hogan, it's special and makes my day, I'm sorry I can't help it -- I was 7 years old in 1984, and his heel turn got me back into wrestling permanently after a layoff during my teenage years. How the hell does he get his mustache so perfect?
Having said that, I do wish the heel thing would come to an end and eventually something gets written in that has him come back to his..."heroic roots" and stay that way for awhile. |

It's ironic because in the 1980s-early 1990s, it was guys like Hogan, Sting, etc that people loved because they were the all-american guys but times changed in the wrestling world. The same thing happened with the Rock. He came into the WWE as a good guy for about 3 months then became this perfect heel but everybody liked him so they turned him good again. Guys like DiBiase, Rick Rude, King Kong Bundy, Randy Savage (pre Mega Powers) are not around anymore as hated bad guys. Hell the Miz and Sheamus are not even close to those guys and they are supposed to be the biggest heels going today. Look what happened with Randy Orton too. He was as "bad" as they came lately but everybody loves him and he ultimately disbanded Legacy and become good per se.

Yeah, Jeff. Shades of gray. It's not "cool" to like the good guy, so have a guy as a tweener and he keeps his edge or street cred and is still able to sell a ton of merch. Cena is in a world of his own. He's in Hogan territory where he will sell a ton of merch and make the company millions. There aren't many guys who can do what he's done and be who he is. Love him or hate him, the guys is a success and is great for business.
Part of it is realizing that the Heels are probably the better entertainers. A heel is easily identifiable, he chokes, cheats, talks back to the ref, etc. What does a face to to be a face? Slaps hands with the crowd? LAME. A good face needs an even better heel to make the fans cheer for him. The internet gives us a vague understanding of the wrestling business, and that's all most of us will ever haves. I'm still a mark and I don't give a shit, although I pop for Jericho and Punk no matter what they do. |

DiBiase made you jealous for his dough and his arrogance twisted the knife; you wanted to see a man of the people take him down a peg. Rude made you jealous for his body, and his arrogance made you insecure; you wanted somebody "his own size" to shut him up for you. Bundy was a bully, and we've all known guys like that, and maybe we couldn't give 'em what they had comin', but Hogan could and we'd cheer him on! Savage was a selfish cheater who didn't deserve that beautiful woman who YOU would have treated like gold. Well he may have her, but if we could find a good face to do the dirty work, we could take away something else... his pride. From what I've heard talked about in the dirt sheets, Vince doesn't want today's product to resemble old time "wrasslin'" ... But trying to reinvent the wheel is foolish to my mind, these basic human emotions are the foundation for drumming up interest in any story's conflict, and it's well-documented how to manipulate them. Just go with what's worked for 1,000 years and dress it up modern. Ask George Lucas.

He may be trying to reinvent it, but I think what he's really doing is dressing it up. Is putting a hotdog inside of a hamburger bun and slapping salsa and mayo on is really reinventing it? I can watch Raw and tell, sometimes perfectly, what is going to happen in a match. It freaks the fuck out of my fiancee, but it's the same shit I've been watching since 1987. I think there are some things from the past that could still work that aren't being implemented, but that's ok. Wrestling is constantly evolving.
When it comes down to it, he still is playing on the emotions of people. He has sponsors and investors to consider, so some of the stuff thats worked in the past just isn't viable from a business standpoint. We're all adults now, too, so we realize that Flair is just a broken old man who can't pay his alimony and Warrior is an egomaniac, where Ted DiBiase is actually a very caring, charitable, humble man. Making me think that DiBiase is a bad guy just doesn't work anymore. From all accounts, Randy Orton is really a dick, so I find it difficult to buy him as a face. The opposite is said to be true of Cena, so I find it hard to see him as a heel. Same with Big Show. For business, the end of the Attitude era was a smart thing. Though as a fan, I'd rather not have my intelligence insulted. It's not to that point, but there are times when I find myself shaking my head at the simplicity of it all. |

Well Dibiase was re-packaged when he came to the WWF and played a great heel. He was super popular face along with Dr. Death in the Mid-South and UWF territories. I remember when he showed up in WWF and was confused on why he was a "bad guy" all of a sudden. Hey I was a kid and wrestling was very real to me (all of us) back then.
I was also at the Superdome in New Orleans when Jake the Snake made one of his 1st appearances in WWF. He was suppose to be a heel but he was another Mid-South & UWF guy who was a big time face. The whole crowd was chanting DDT, DDT....he got on the mic to tell us all to shut up, because we weren't suppose to know what his finishing move was and that he was suppose to be a bad guy. Of course he got the cheap heat....for about two minutes because when he finally did it the crowd went nuts...and when Damien came out the crowd went crazy again, because we all knew him as a good guy. It was a television taping for the old Superstars program and remember about 3 weeks later it being on TV. They had to edit out the crowd chanting DDT and the announcers didn't know what to call his finisher. I was like you don't know what that is? Didn't you listen to the crowd? It's the DDT!!! Speaking of which I use to love going to their house shows where they were taping superstars for like the next month worth of shows. One particular time in the MS Gulf Coast Coliseum I got to watch LOD wrestle 2 or 3 times, Hogan twice, Warrior 2 or 3 times, same with Demolition....one of the best nights ever as a 6th grader. |

I can't wait to watch Sin Cara utterly destroy Rey Mysterio.

If that's the plan, I'm in. Not that I don't like Mysterio, but I smell a feud coming...
