I'm with you on your list except Piper was a good brawler and talker , but not a GREAT wrestler in a total package IMO . I'm gonna catch some slack for this but Bret .... really ? Slow unmemorable promos and much like HBK ( who I still think is good) had a TON stall moves and kept the pace of the matches slow by doing double counts looking at the lights and overall using the count to their advantage. They both would have bursts of energy but really kept the match slow at time.

if you have WWE classics then watch some of the old NWA wrestling there. I was talking to another mod here about that and the thing that is missing today from when Dusty was running the old Crockett promotions was everybody who cut an interview would put over the whole locker room regardless of who they were teamed with or going against. That was something Dusty brought to the table that was overlooked.

Bret was very good. He did get stale at times. He had a massive following, though. I was a Lex Luger fan around Wrestlemania 10 (I'm a WCW guy, what can I say?) and even I thought Hart was more over than he was. I don't know what it was about Bret that people adored... but he's so high on the list because the fans really worshiped him. They eventually turned on him (when he came back to WWF after his hiatus and in WCW), but he had his time. |

Dusty gave all he had. I remember that stunt that got him fired from the NWA/WCW when Turner owned it. That spike to the eye looked painful. Turner's people really f'ed up on that, because that sold the story. Half the crowd were throwing crap at Hawk and Animal and the other half were in awe thinking, "These guys really are bad asses!"

I grew up watching wrestling with my pops and while I am a product of sunday afternoon WWF on USA and NWA/WCW and Championship wrestling, your list has really taken me back and I have to say I think Dusty deserves to be in the top ten, IMO. If this list were expanded to 20 what would it be, I would hope that some of the earlier guys that laid the ground work for what is today would be listed. Guys like Superstar Billy Graham, Terry Funk, Bruno Sammartino, Killer Kowalski, Baron Von Raschke, Harley Race, etc. etc. etc. while we are at lets do tag teams???

You left out Kurt Angle (who is in the middle of going crazy and ruining his life), but for the most part, I agree with your original list.
