Worth seeing, I've been there twice both times when my ship was in port USS Abraham Lincoln, CVN 72...better known as the Drinkin Lincoln to some of the fleet and the Stinkin Lincoln to her crew members.
Seriously, the Midway is worth the visit...there's also a nearby mall that's rather nice, I suggest the knife shop, as well I cannot remember the name but just a ways from the mall is an amazing Mexican place near the Borders Bookstore. I envy you man, wish I could go back again myself. |

Thanks Mdaggs, Ill check it out. You can count on the pics, Im still working on my carrier custom project, I have two in my basement right now. I like adding detail when I can and also some basic departments that are part of the ship. I want to see their setup and incorporate it into a new design for a custom USS FLAGG.

Remember, if you add ratings to the ship to give us Bosun's Mates some love. Someone has to stand watch to keep all the nukes from following each other like lemmings over the side of the ship.

TOWER: Thee best advice I can give is to focus on the Super Structure or Tower. Take overall profile shots - front, back, and especially its side. Then, take close-up shots of the many details on the Tower. Examples include pumps, hoses, hooks, wire-boxes, ropes, chain railings, etc. MOST IMPORTANT - take photos of things that are on on the OUTER WALLS of the SuperStructure. Those many things will render texture to your custom Flagg. Many of those things you will be able to find or make in miniature form via the crafts section at Walmart, Michael's, or already made in other toylines - e.g. hoses, hooks, ropes, etc. VINTAGE: This is not really well known. Yet some of those carriers we all know and love in the 80s are actually ships built in the 40s; just like the USS Midway. She just got her massive modernized make-over in the 60s. So in order to capture nice "touches" to your custom Flagg, be sure to take pictures of ALL things vintage left on the Midway. Examples include commemorative plaques honoring one historic event to another. Simple picture, copy, and paste of that plaque picture and glued to some rounded nub slapped on your custom Flagg will do the trick. If you have trouble locating those commemorative plaques, simply ask the curators or docents. Oh, that's very important, take the guided tour from a guide. Do that first and early to give you time to do all the rest of the above. Don't be surprised if you'll go a second day, too. Ask for paperwork or copies of blueprints the from onboard library and librarian. With this, bring a many many many quarters just in case your given many pages of blueprints and construction diagrams. The Boiler Room is of great importance. If you have time to go there, go. I won't say why its important yet only that it is. If you post pictures, depending on what type of Boilers the Midway used, I can point to its potential importance. |

That's awesome! My Grandpa was on the Midway in WWII (also on the Lexington and the Yorktown).
I've set foot on the Kitty Hawk an the Abraham Lincoln and was in total awe each time. Take some pics, enquiring minds want to know! |
