as an english teacher myself, i've often considered exploring other options. paperwork, administrators, parents, and the future dregs of society definitely make the job a bit tougher every year. i've been lucky enough to find reasons each year to keep on trucking. regardless, good luck with the future, and keep us updated!

I was a former Teaching Student int he UK. I feel your pain 100% i was fortunate to experience everything you did as a student.
in the UK teaching students have to do teaching practice in their first year and take on 50% of the teaching. which in itself is BS. The experienced teachers don't help you either. SO you have to do a terms lesson plans monthly plans, evaluation, marking etc all unpaid as well in the name of education. Some people do it and become robots and as such it gets to the situation you experienced. Good luck to you friend

I started a teacher licensure program and substitute-taught about two years ago. I love history and thought that teaching it to high-school students would be great. It was tough, especially dealing with the students. Last summer I took a seasonal job as a park ranger and loved it. I loved it so much that I dropped out of the teaching program and became a ranger year-round. I was not ment to be a teacher, and apparently you were not either. This means that there is something else out there with your name on it!

do not give up, do not become disenfranchised above all else do not lose hope. i hated school with a passion i was one of those kids who didn't think twice about cursing out a teacher and or administrator or both or anyone who crossed my path. overall i was a good kid who really loved to learn but i wasn't buying into the "system" (needing a permission to use the restroom psh) i had the knowledge but not the wisdom. it was talks with those special teachers whose words i still live with who were more yoda then instructor it was them that kept me going in my quest to learn.

For anyone who may think this, you're wrong: teaching is not "Freedom Writers" or any other romanticized Hollywood crap, even if you do make a difference from time to time, with the key words being "time to time" and that it's hard-earned and students don't love you for the rest of their lives. Ugh, I'm getting sick. |

When I was in HS, the best English/creative writing teacher I ever had was ousted for being "too creative" and "too open-minded". It was a shame, because he had a major impact on me, and is certainly a factor in my own personal successes.
He was a loss, and the hierarchy replaced him with a drone. You'll be missed more than you know. But there comes a time when you have got to do for yourself. If you knew it was that time. Then you did the right thing. because... "Knowing is half the battle." |

And PS.
You're so right about this... "The inability to form a coherent sentence is very telling. Sorry." I think the same thing when I read some posts on here. |

Wah I can't handle being a teacher!!! WAh Wah Wah!! Those who can can, those who can't teach! Try working a real job like the majority of us. I work 75 hours a week at multimillion dollar business & I hate my job but do I quit or bitch online no! Grow a sack & work hard! People like you who have to have every need met is a big part in the pussification of America. 40 years ago people hated their job & delt but today not so much. I am actually glad that a whinner like you can no longer influence our nations future. Try laying brick or working in a kitchen for 60 hours a week. In this economy you were lucking to have a job at all!!!!
