I agree this is ridiculous. But this isn't all that uncommon. People don't want to be held responsible for their own actions, and they dont want to be expected to have to hold up to their own beliefs or "values" in the presence of temptation.

The only mention of it being a school function is when the news asked the school board.
I've never heard of an official school function paid for and organized by anyone other then the school. If the coach comes out and says, yes it was a school function, then he did break the rules (which according to him, he was never given the rule book to begin with). Until then, I'm not going to believe the school board claiming it was. They have to claim it was otherwise they look really bad (even worse then they do now). Also, he's done this for the last 5 years, every year, this is the first time that someone brought beer? Find that hard to believe. The other then, especially with the other examples of there being alcohol at other school functions, even if this was an official event, why on earth would he think it was wrong for a parent to bring beer when he has personally seen a couple of events (sponosored by the school and even more official then any backyard BBQ could ever be) where there was alchohol present? That's the bigger issue. Why single him out and why do so now?

Okay, I agree the bigger issue is why single him out.......still does not negate that he is wrong and again he does not claim in any stretch of the imagination that he was not throwing a school function.
But I want to know whose cornflakes did he piss in to have everyone of power kicking him around? Its not like there is a tug of war to keep him. The whole board has written him off and one has to wonder why? Maybe he should have a sit-down and drink a beer with the President and the Commissioner.............. and sort this thing out. |

This can probably be directly blamed on the D.A.R.E. movement. They tell kids that alcohol and cigarettes are just as bad as crack and heroin. If the school system and the government are going to brainwash the kids they have to back up their efforts with action.
Welcome to the "nanny state"

Yeah, blame D.A.R.E. an organization that has done nothing but helped kids for 26 years forget about the fact that over 15 thousand people die a year due to Drinking and driving and smoking kills like 433,000 people. Lets just shut them down - who needs to inform our children not to do those things, YEAH!
I mean Smoking and drinking aren't as deadly as heroin....... only 10 deaths per 200,000 people die of Heroin as compared to 1,200 deaths per 200,000 FROM SMOKING CIGARETTES! |

D.A.R.E. isn't to blame for this. There's nothing wrong with informing children of the dangers.

There's ALOT of examples of that. Spanking is a prime example. My cousin refuses to spank her children, but both her and I were spanked as children. I personally see nothing wrong with it. I was spanked, I turned out just fine. But yeah, it's always odd how things change from being okay to not being okay as generations come and go. Makes you wonder what the kids of today watch us do that will no longer be okay to do when they get our age.
