I personally don't care for him at all.
I found these to be much better reads than I had expected. Not that they are as good as his father's works, but very entertaining and a decent back story to the events of Dune.

If you like fantasy, check out the Icewind Dale Trilogy by R.A Salvatore. If you enjoy it, there are about 15 more books in the whole series. Gotta love Drizzt.
