Why Am I hearing the Joker line from the Dark Knight "what happened? did your balls just drop off?" in my head right now?
Why and how is that even an option that a man would take a womans last name? No woman is going to respect a man that follows after her.

My wife and I went traditional, but I had a boss who took his wife's last name because there were no sons left in her family to carry it, and he was adopted anyway so he had no real tie to his name. Kind of a cool story.

I kind of a agree with Weezus I don't really see the point of getting married, but whatever to each their own. But if I do find myself having a change of heart and getting married one day I would keep my last name out of respect for my father.

Maybe if her last name was cooler than mine... Like Savage or Ironside or Stormhammer
Hmm... Hicks Stormhammer. And I'd captain an RV fashioned into a Viking Longboat right down I-64.

The Icelanders have it all figured out. Women don't change their names when they get married, and the children get either the father's FIRST name plus "son" or "dottir" put at the end of it. It's like "Worf, son of Mogh". They're able to trace back over a 1000 years using this method, so it seems to work.
Anyway, I'm not Icelandic. My girlfriend and I are quite happy to forgo the traditional ceremonies and remain commonlaw, but the subject of children has come up on more than one occasion and she's a very non-traditional girl... it's one thing I have to insist on, even though I know it's sexist.
Please check out http://hmcsgreatadventure.com/ - it's a mix of sci-fi, humour and the friggin' Royal Canadian Navy, eh!
Also looking to sell/trade Joes... Need Lego Futuron Monorail, Land Adventure, etc... http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...-t-thread.html

My nephew did this, haven't talked to em or seen em since my dad's funeral. And didn't think to ask em why he did, so no idea what his reason for doing it was.

As a newlywed we had this discussion several times and she decided to keep her last name as she felt she would 'lose' her identity if she changed it. Plus she said it would be too much hassle to go through the name change.
We did agree that our children will have my last name.

Under normal circumstances I would go with tradition. However if my wife to be was someone who had mad a living with her name, like an actress or a news reporter I wouldn't mind taking her name instead.
It would depend on the circumstance but honestly I don't care too much about it.
