FN Five-seven - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If money truly is not a problem then get something truly BAD ASS!! Will cost you a couple grand but worth it. The rounds may also cost a bit as well.
You can buy a Glock, Kimber, or any other mamby pamby that will be just like the other 9 million out there, or you can get something BAD ASS and is a very good investment. If they get banned then your weapon will double or triple in price.
If money is not a problem then go big!

I fell in love with my buddies .45... I have no idea what it is, but I had a lot of fun with it. All I know it the thing was a lighter gray/silvier but not polished and he paid $800 for it. Some kinda collector gun...
I would like to have a .45 to go shooting with me friends.

I'd go with a HK. Never fired the 9mm version but did with the .45 and I agree it was very light and hardly any kick. I had a Colt 1911 .45 and that was a beast of a gun. The type of gun you see in the movies when empty your clip, you can still throw it and kill someone. I know it wasn't a handgun, but I had a Hi-Point 9mm carbine. Half the lenght of a rifle and very light. It is a blast to shoot at the shooting range. There also cheap, around 170.00 and never had a jamming problem.

I'd also have to say HK. I've got an HK45c now and love it. Probably one of the finest handguns made at the moment. It has surprisingly little kick for a .45 through design and 10 round clips are available. If you want to go a little less expensive, get a USP .45c which used to be the standard of special forces around the world. They're in good supply and you can probably get a very decent deal on one.
The best personal defense weapon is a .357 magnum revolver. They don't jam, the only safety is the heavy trigger pull and god help an attacker if you connect.
Regardless of what gun you have, when keeping it for home defense, you should keep it loaded with hot rounds. Something that mushrooms on impact to cause maximum damage.
I do like the FN 5.7 but not as a defense weapon, the caliber is made for armor penetration and not stopping power. It has such little kick and makes for excellent groupings on multiple shots. The armor penetration only comes with a higher velocity round. The gun has a 20 round clip which helps if you have bad aim but you may have to unload on someone to stop them.
I'd avoid glocks but that's just a personal opinion. They're just not that nice and I don't find them to shoot well. They're all over the place when I fire them and don't feel well in my hand, regardless of the model.
I'm not a violent person in the least but if it came to protecting my family and my home, it's better to have protection than not.

I recommend the Glock 18.
In my state, automatic weapon restrictions have been relaxed for ordinary citizens. Much like having the concealed carry license.
I recommend getting both certifications. Better to have it and never need versus needing it and not having it.
That said, the Glock 18 is a marvelous gun! Check out the link on youtube:
Needless to say, you can select single, 3 shot or full auto.
You will have the penetration and knock down power.
Your target will not get back up.

I am now on my 11th Glock ( BS, honestly). I have bought and traded many over the years (almost 20 at this point), buying and trading them for other different makes and models, only to keep coming back to them.
I currently own four - one for home defense (a large .45), one that I carry in the car and leave in it at work (in other words one that if it gets stolen I do not loose my primary carry gun), my carry gun (a small 9mm - I have a CCW lisc BTW), and a mid size general purpose one (another spare more than anything else).
I will NOT carry anything else or use anything else for defensive use.
That said I also still own many other handguns also, and have had many others over the years. The only thing I seem to own more of then firearms is Joes and comics at this point.
About the only other thing I would carry if there were no Glocks would be a Sig, and I also own one of them too.
There ARE better guns out there that are also MORE expensive too. BUT, you also will NOT find a better, more reliable, and more durable value for your dollar than a Glock in my experience. It's the equivalent of a good Honda Accord or Civic vs a Rolls Royce.
Yes you CAN buy nicer and more expensive, but you will NOT buy any better or better value.
Get yourself a Glock if you must have another auto pistol vs a good revolver.
If guns are really not your thing or you are a noob - get a Glock 19 in 9mm - about the best of all of them / best beginner / general purpose model of all of theirs (Glocks).
