I watched the video for this fight as it was my first and I was expecting a Kumate atmosphere. Not some big dude sitting atop of a little dude and punching him. This was a grown-up version of a playground fight. I hope nobody paid to watch this live

Brock Lesnar is a big guy and his strategy is to throw people to the ground and KO them. He did win by a KO due to strikes against Randy Couture though. Mixed Martial Arts is a sport just like any other combat sport.

I can't help thinking that a true Martial Artist would not let this dude grab you down. I know Bloodsport is just a movie but I was hoping to see some different fighting styles and watch how they counteract each other.

In the last year alone Mike & Mike from ESPN have talked on air about how good the UFC is and how much better of a PPV event it is then boxing. ESPN Magazine has been covering it and Stuart Scott trains in recreational MMA and is pretty vocal about it in the mag. In the 2009 edition of the ESPN Sports Almanac MMA is including in the statics and is mentioned by writers a few times in the book. ESPN.COM is now offereing full coverage and a weekley online show. We arent seeing it daily on SportsCenter, and its always gonna seem that way because when they cover baseball...its atleast 20 games and its daily, same with hockey...NCAA Football has more teams and divisions then you can shake a stick at and after next month the NFL will have everything on lockdown, thats just how it is. They are comming around though, I'm a huge sports fan and a huge fight fan and recreational athlete/fighter..the great thing about MMA is that really as far as its come in the last 5 years, we are really toddlers in the world of sports. How much we've grown inside that short period speaks volumes...its still evolving and growing and people..even ESPN people are finding out this is a legitamate form of sports, even though its taking them forever! You cant take away from the sheer genius of Dana White's marketing skills and as much as other fight groups are cool...UFC is by far the absolute best. The short version? Its good to be here right now...watching it catch on. At this point too, if you havent "gotten" it yet? Go f*ck yourself. Last edited by PitViper; 07-12-2009 at 06:46 PM.. |

That fight had 0 martial arts in it I can't help thinking that a true Martial Artist would not let this dude grab you down. I know Bloodsport is just a movie but I was hoping to see some different fighting styles and watch how they counteract each other. You have to be joking man. Look this sport has been around for quite awhile, one could easily argue it's roots lie in Pankration. But as for style versus style the early UFC's were just that.. a BJJ dude fighting a Karate guy, a boxer against a sumo dude, a wrestler and a muay thai fighter. They were all ridiculously one sided towards BJJ at first. Everyone started to learn BJJ, then amateur wrestlers started to come along and counteract BJJ, then kickboxers counteracted them. Now, everyone has to have at least a decent working knowledge of all the arts to be any good. A straight up Karate, Muay Thai, Judo guy would get tooled by a well rounded MMA fighter. The base for many MMA fighters is Muay Thai, Wrestling, BJJ, and good conditioning. That has started to change more in recent years and until very recently Karate was more of a joke in MMA. Georges St. Pierre and Lyoto Machida are two people who recently showed that Karate, when used properly adds a very nice base to your skills. He may not have labeled himself as such but Bruce Lee was a true MMA pioneer. If it's true and that was your first experience. Welcome to MMA, this is the sport where things change monthly. Who knows, tomorrow's next superstar might add Capoeira to his base. |

Dude, you've really never seen a UFC or other MMA fight? This has been a legit sport since what, 1992 or 93. Chong Li is disappointed in you. |

Video - Kiai master Yanagiryuken gets beaten up by MMA fighter - ToxicJunction.com
That should prove how stupid that train of thought is... What they don't show in this version of the video is the old man has all his students attack him and he throws these stupid ass strikes into the air that knock them down or across the room.... He offers 5000 stating he can beat any MMA guy. I love how he gets hit in the face and has this look like "this isn't how it's supposed to happen" Guys like this teaching stupid "Magic Kung FU" need to get a nice reality check... |
