Oh I'm hardly disagreeing, just pointing out a couple of exceptions. LotR seems like a separate issue to me, though. No it didn't have legs, but it's three year run seemed moderately successful. They put out a good deal of product during for those years, IIRC. You had your peg-warmers, but it wasn't as bad as what I see today with Star Trek and Terminator.
Funny thing is, as I look back, I don't remember the original Indy line launching into a big toy franchise, either. I suppose it's only logical that a line needs some form of media to keep awareness up.

True, but Star Wars had a 7-10 year hiatus.

Not in consistent new releases, though. I believe you could go from today all he way back to Power of the Force without much of a break.

I beleive Power Rangers have had a run as long as the current Hasbro Star Wars line.
I suppose it's all in the power of the licence and the faith of the manufacturer. |

well kids today are completely oversaturated with a multi-media blitz with everything. that is why their interest is easily snatched away by the "next big thing".

I actually got back into transformers as a result of the movie toys. I hadn't bought one since the late 80's, and then I saw the transformations of some of the characters, and then noticed the animated toys and universe toys... which are all pretty neat. I especially like the sales that TRU and Target have been having- I picked up quite a few as a result. I'm kind of looking forward to the same thing happening with the ROC figures for customs parts and such- or at least more repaints of future Resolute and classic characters
