But non the less it really sucks people can be this way. Either about collectors or just someone wanting something they are going to throw away. I like the job I have now. We encourage folks to take whatever is in the trash. I have tons of fiberglass matting, Styrofoam, green board, wood of all kinds. |

When Wal*Mart first got the Star Wars Buil-A-Droid 2-pack Exclusive sets last year, I bought one of every one(all 6 of them) and took the cardboard display box setup up to the register with them. The cashier looked at me and grabbed the display and started to toss it towards the garbage. I looked at her and said, you can void all 6 of those 2-packs then too and started to put my wallet back. She stopped and asked if I wanted the display too then and I told her that's why I brought it up with the items. She said she'd have to get approval from a supervisor(CSM?) and called for one. They said it's fine and walked away.
If that would have been me the Manager said that too about throwing the stuff out before giving it to Transformer fans, I would have said then I will do my shopping elsewhere(amongst other things that would get me banned) and walk out the door. There's always somewhere else to get the same items(even if it comes down to ebay) but after that I'd never go back to that Target again! How rude, especially from a manager, the one who is supposed to set the example for employees and is the closest representation of the store besides the store itself. I'd call Target and let them know how rude that manager was and let them know you are considering never going back there again and letting your friends and family know about this too. Maybe corporate would send you one of the displays or something? What do you have to lose really?

I remember when TRU had the Giant Millenium Falcons hanging from the ceiling. A buddy of mine made friend with an employee, and when they threw it out, he made sure he was there. The employee gently place it next to the dumpster, and my buddy went and picked it up. It made a hell of a display piece in his basement.

He sounds like he wanted the toys for himself. I know when I use to work at a thrift store in the early 90's I use to get lots of goodies. I guess it's just employee perks. But what this manger said today was pretty much putting others down for being a fan.

I hear stories like this and just shutter, it's not like they loose anything. I've got store displays from several stores, back when sigma six was out I was able to get the burger king manager to give me the stand up display of duke, but I've had those same kind of managers shoot me down as well. Back when we had a toys r us in Biloxi (before Hurricane Katrina) there was this one manager who was a total corporate tool, who wouldn't let anyone have anything, but I know for fact he walked out of the store with the millenium falcon display that was exclusive to toys r us......Almost made me smile when we lost toys r us....

Ok ,first of all awoooooga! that pic is smokin'! now with that out of the way, I had worked for frito lay/ pepsi when the starwars stuff came out and I was told to destroy all the p.o.p and what not. I had always thought that was bogus ,so I would take names and give it away. I had got in alot of trouble for doing so but I didnt see the point of throwing away cool stuff like that when it made someone's day just to give it to them. They prob think someone is going to make money or something on it. and ..a...as always pics can be sent to my email if you decide to take more.lol! horndog moment over,lol--mark

Now that's really sad. I really those that judge us for what we love. I've posted blogs on it many times before. Women putting me down for collecting, when they can have fifty pairs of shoes and it's perfectly normal. But if I want Joes or Transformers I'm looked down on.

Yeah that sucks. It really is a shame. A lot of managers at stores are like that. All high and mighty attitudes like that toward collectors.
My home town store (ALCO) had some GI Joe 2 packs come in a while back ago. When i saw them I was stunned. They have never to my knowledge carried GI Joe in my lifetime. Needless to say I bought them. I later thanked the manager for ordering them. I noticed they were not coming in any more so I asked the Assistant Manager if she knew if any more were coming in. She replied to me "The Manager said she hates f*&^ing collectors". So I understand where you are coming from.
