Sound off. Who's traveling to see it? Who's house is in the path of totality and they won't need to do any traveling? (lucky bastards)
Got your glasses? Camera filters? I'll be heading out to Wyoming with the fiancé and my two pups in my camper. Gonna find some place to pull off high in the mountains and camp for a few days. Traffic is supposed to be terrible and cell service is supposed to be down. Gas and beer in short supply, etc... ApocEclipse is what some are calling it. But I'm leaving at 3am fully stocked for four days of camping, toilet, shower, stove... We'll be set. I'm excited and hope other Tankers are planning on doing the same!

This will be my first, so I'm pretty stoked... Of course the weather forecast says partly cloudy on Monday hahaha, so we'll see

Heading to southern Indiana to check it out. Beer in TALL supply. Haha. Don't have glasses yet but some hillbilly tv station there is giving them away like all weekend so I'll go rub elbows with the Dreadnoks and get some.

I snagged 10 pairs from Clark Planetarium on Tuesday (walked in, got them walked out, I was lucky) and they were happy to point out the ISO certification. Now I'm hearing they are sold out.
I tried them out yesterday and they are wonderful, all I could see was a faint dark yellow disk and nothing else. I'm mostly interested in totality as I've seen partial eclipses before. I plan on looking at the countryside when it gets dark. I gave the rest to my family that's staying in SLC, where it'll only be 91% I think I'm more exited to go camping finally in my new/old trailer than anything else.

I think the crazy lead up and shenanigans associated with the eclipse is more fun. I personally don't really care about the eclipse itself, just more into the hoopla!

I just noticed I screwed up on my post about protecting your eyes and neglected to add qualifiers/get specific. During PARTIAL eclipses, never look at the sun without eye protection. During a TOTAL eclipse you can look at the sun with the naked eye, but be careful! As soon as the totality starts to wane, get the lenses on pronto!
I was able to view the total eclipse just fine without lenses, but as soon as the sun started to peek out from behind the shadow, it was like a searing laser! Last edited by SmokeBellew; 08-21-2017 at 09:39 AM.. |
