I volunteer for an animal shelter called ArfHouse. (www.arfhousechicago.org)
and every few months we drive down to the Arf House rescue ranch in Sherman, Texas where there are over 400 dogs... and we pack up as many as we can in a van and drive them back here to Chicago where there is a higher adoption rate (than in Sherman). It's a long drive but itz really fun and itz all for helpin the furry beasts. the ranch itself is great. there's only like 5 volunteers on the ranch for all 400 dogs but they all get taken care of. Itz actually an amazing place (if you're a dog lover)...despite it being full of homeless dogs. a large portion of the population runs the grounds in packs. if you've never been out in the middle of Texas in the middle of the night on a ranch with 400 dogs, half of them howling, and the only light is the cluster of stars above you and the reflection off the eyes of 50 free roaming pack-oriented homeless dogs.... it really is something else. anyways... that's what I'm doin this weekend. drivin down with some volunteers... spending a few days helpin out on the ranch with cleaning and vaccinations and baths... and then loading up a van with some critters and makin the drive back to Chicago where they can be adopted out. Arf House has a 99% adoption rate (hell, three of my dogs are from arfhouse), so they'll all find homes. anyways... what are YOU doin this comin weekend???

Not sure what I'm doing yet. Its my daughters first 4th, even though she doesn't know what it is yet.
