i'll just say this...my girlfriend asked me to to make a choice...for room sake...joes...or marvel legends...
with was a no brainer...joes stay...
besides witht he marvel universe 3.75 figures...she can't tell the difference...between them and joes...
seriously, i couldn't sell off my joes...so many memories...i'd sell all my electronics first...

After thinking about it now I might not sell my collection at all................................unless maybe it was for enough to buy a new Lamborghini Murcielago or Ferrari 599X and still have enough left over for a 2009 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR

first post ever. probably a good place to start.
i remember collecting baseball cards in the heyday of '89 -- topps traded sets, ken griffey upper deck RC, billy ripken fleer "error", etc. i thought these were a goldmine that would rake me in riches, so i brought them with me when i moved cross-country.
around the same time, my joe collection got played with, beat up, put in a shoebox in my closet and left at my old house when i moved.
twenty (!!!) years later, my baseball card collection is sitting in my closet, collecting dust, and -- surprise, surprise! -- depreciating. and here i am, buying 25th anniversary joe figures, opening them up and posing them until their joints go limp.
for me, these 25th joes aren't worth anything more than sentimental value. i know it, my wife knows it, and she lets me have my fun. if anything, the value is that i'm not beating myself over the head anymore for leaving a box of tunnel rat, firefly and storm shadow in my closet back east. (ok, well maybe i am until dial tone comes out 25th. ;)
would i sell my collection? heck yeah. i'm not stupid. but if it's not enough for me to buy it all back again and still make a profit, it's not worth my time.

This is a question which I have often asked myself. I began casually collecting G.I. Joe back when Sigma six first launched, and later when the 25th line hit shelves I became downright obsessed with collecting. I knew going it that for me it was never about the resale value, it was about a personal passion. I have loved G.I. Joe ever since I was seven years old (1982) I never stopped loving it but for a long time G.I. Joe was off of my radar, I was busy dating going to school and later working etc.
As a child my family was poor and we couldn't afford much in the way of toys, I had a few Joes and Transformers, and about ten He-man figures but, for every toy I had there were ten toys I wanted badly and knew I would never have. Over the years, through many moves, my toy collection was lost, I have not one toy from my childhood, only my memories. So, now as an adult with a substantial income, I would say that my collecting is a combination of trying to relive my childhood, getting the toys I couldn't afford and always wanted and the fact that I still love G.I. Joe.
There are times when I estimate how much I have spent and think to myself "wow, are there more responsible things you could have done with this money?" But the bottom line is this; The money I spend on my collecting is extra income, I pay all my bills on time, I take care of my Mom, I put healthy and nutritious food on the table and my family has everything they need. As for my fiance, she takes comfort from the fact that my collection has some resale value, but I made it clear to her that I neither need or ask for her permission, my collection is my business, I don't give a shit if she likes it or not. I keep a large display in my office which is off limits, I tell my family straight out "you have no business in my office unless I give you permission". Eventually, when I have kids I will play with them, buy them toys and I will die for them if necessary, but my stuff is my stuff. I have a dream of one day passing on my collection to my son or daughter, but I know that it will never mean to them what it means to me.
Would I sell? It would have to be enough to retire on, that way I would have plenty of time and money to rebuild my collection.

only if I decided to give up all my wordly posessions, shave my head into a goofy ponytail and go sell flowers at the airport.
at which point, shoot me.

I have never been a completest at all. I only get the ones I never had and wanted as a kid or the ones that are MIA...
I have a modest colletion and it gets bigger and smaller as time goes on... If someone offered me $1500 for all but the stuff I trashed as a kidI would give it up in a heart beat..
The only ones I would want to keep would be my Skyhawk's, my Hammer, and about 10-15 figures and I would be good.... I have lots of good fun with then as a kid....
