I work hard and make good money. I use a portion of this money to pay for my health insurance, very good health insurance. Why should someone who does not make as much money as me or even work at all be entitled to the same coverage as me. This can be said about everything from the cars we drive, the homes we live in and the food we eat. The government was not designed to provide for everyone's every need. Go out and get it yourself. In the end YOU are the only person you can rely on.
There are many, many factors at play in this. Health care should not be in the same category as a product. It shouldn't be seen as a status symbol. That is one of the problems with the health care system. |

Also, in one study New York was listed as one of the "nicest" big cities in the world, and may have been one of the top 2 in the US. EDIT: Nevermind that last part. It was a quantity thing for most random acts of kindness. In a city that large there are going to be more acts. Law of averages... Last edited by RuckusJr; 06-05-2009 at 07:19 PM.. |

I am with you all the way. Back in the 60's kicked and screamed against social security being instated. Now no one will live without it.
Universal Health Care will be the same way. I meet alot of Canadians in my business and they all say they would not live without their government health care. Some of them are honest and say there can be waiting periods but for example if you fall down and break your ankle. You go to the emergency room and it is paid for. It is just paid for. Break your leg. Its paid for. nuff said. Somewhere around 47 MILLION people are uninsured. Myself and my wife are included in these numbers. It would cost me somewhere between 500 to 650 bucks a month to pay for proper health coverage. I can't pay for that. That is just to damn high! Now I realize there are those who don't agree with me. That is fine. However, I believe health care should not be a business/industry rather than a social obligation to provide health care to the public. I am no communist but I have to relay this story a good customer told me. He was a US doctor on the US Olympic team. He was in the former USSR with the wrestling team. Anyway, the Amercian coach was bloviating about how the USA was so great with the freedom of speech and whatnot. The Soviet coach was listening patiently and when the American was finished, the Soviet coach remarked that while it must be great to have these freedoms. However, in the Soviet Union, they had the right to Health Care, Education, and Housing. He said, you can be screaming whatever you want under the bridge and no one would care. he said he would prefer the health care rather than his free speech. There is something to be learned for the Soviet coach's remarks. Lets face it, the health care and insurance companies have a racket and the government always seems to listen to the lobbyists in Washington. The people are the ones who are being forced to feed this machine in the form of unreasonably priced premiums. Did you know some 60-70% of personal bankruptcies are due to health care debt? It is terrible and unconscionable to allow this to continue. If you want health insurance, you will still be able to buy it and get pricier doctors and care. Just like in Canada. Up there you can get insurance too. Funny thing is a couple weeks ago I posted a comment about government health care and someone on the tank actually got my email and emailed me on how I really don't want government health care. Really? I don't have health care now so what is the difference? This issue is one of the true watershedding dilemmas for this country. This country will evolve and create health care. 37th is an embarrassment for the supposedly leader of the free world. yo joe

I am surprised the US is only 7 spots behind Canada. Canadians brag to me about how much better their health care is so I was surprised.
Europeans have the best health care because they are probably in the best shape. They have to walk everywhere which is what nature intended for our bodies

To repeat what facehammer just said, let's hope you don't have to undergo any operations or treatment for a disease that your health unsurance refuses to cover you for because the execs of your insurance company in all their benevolent wisdom considers the condition as "preexisting. Healthcare is not a status to be flaunted around like a car, it should not be purchased like the latest GI Joe, healthcare like breathing is a fundamental human right. Period.
