i never understood the big deal about socialized healthcare, look at how much our government and the services are already socialized.

Who pays for the research for the drug companies, Biotech, medical advancements...?
Do they still charge like always against our hypothetical single payer social system?

Here's a good article for anyone interested in more current info about how the US ranks in health care compared to other countries:

According to that site, Canada is barely ahead of us.

Let me say something guys. If the Gov. steps in and dictates a pay scale for each medical professional. Lets say all doctors make X amount, those people who go on to higher education to learn to be, say a brain surgeon, will feel no need to go to school for all those extra years. Why do that when you can make as much as a family doctor. That goes for each medical professional, I know I hear it from them every day. The reason most go into the medical field is to make money.
Most universal health care countries, medical professionals do not go on to learn more and less people enter medical fields when the pay is not there. The money that was once there is gone so they don't strive to be more. The list for procedures grow as the shear volume of people wanting services can't be meet due to inadequate amounts of competent professionals shrink. Is there a balance, well not as far as most models are showing. The problem with any form of health care reform is the people who want help are the same people who are not adding in the human factor. People, not all but many, want their cares meet and could care less if others get their needs meet too. Who has an answer? I don't. I only know that the doctors and nurses I work with all say the same thing. "If they standardize our pay rates, we will do less and not go further in in our chosen fields." Call that lazy or worse but those are the people who will be affected and I don't blame there feelings. I guess what I would like to add to your thread is this. Standardized medical has to be competitive and can't take away money from the medical workers. if it does, expect to see slower and less experienced care professionals. I hope my rant comes out coherent.

Well, Canada is sort of like our little sister.
What I'd really like to see subsidized are 1/18 scale vehicles! Anyone tired of paying out the arse for F-18s and F-16s and hard-to-find Hueys. Lets write our congressmen and women! |

I guess we were expecting Doctors and Nurses to be more like firemen and policemen who take the job for reasons other than money.
