I was 18 when my girlfriend told me she was pregnant. It was tough: it was during a bad economic time, and I couldn't find a job. I was too irresponsable to handle it. It went badly, the relationship ended, and I was but a footnote in my daughter's life for years. Now I have a relationship with her, she's 16. I am so sad for all the lost years. Treasure them while they are here, because they won't last forever. Do what's right by the child and the mother. Sacrifice now for a healthier future. Trust me: it will be worth it. Just remember that many have done it before you and many will do it after, but this is the only first shot you'll get. Make it count!

Awesome!
I've got more advice. Don't follow advice! Seriously though, everyone is wonderfully supportive so far, with so many valid things to say, but you will of course have to find your own way. Some kids you can spoil the hell out of, some can become jerks! As far as seeing your kids born being the most beautiful thing in the world, I am NOT lying when I say it was about the scariest, most horrific thing ever to me! Just don't let mama know that. Of course mine were both C-sections, and before the first, I don't think I had ever held a baby before! So, no, I did not wish to cut the cord from this purple screaming muppet. But afterwards, I did see the most beautiful face in the world, so previous poster did have a point. And to the poster who missed a lot, but is in the life of his 16 year old daughter, I commend that you are around, I hope you're close. One last bit, I doubt anyone has ever said their life felt "emptier" because they had kids. |

Hey Monkeywrench, Congrats on the woman getting pregnant. My wife and I lost two before we had our first kid and it taught us to love every moment you have with them cause you never will get them back. We are the PROUD parents of Christian 6, and Julian 3. Both boys and both love GI Joe!!!! They have the 25th figures and I have my vintage Joes. My wife thinks it is cool cause we "play" together. It is bond with my boys that no one else has. Kids are precious. Get ready for potty training. My kids are a gift from God. Sorry, got caught up in the moment.

Just want to start out by saying, Congrats!
You will be fine. I know what your going threw. I freaked out too, when I found out. Now, I have a 5 month year old daughter. Sometimes, you might want to run away or you might feel like this father stuff isn't cut out for you. But, just stick with it. I was always a party guy, who liked to hang out with friends all the time, but you gotta grow up someday. Its hard work being a father, but you can do it. Look at it this way, you still have your Joe's...
